Sounds to me like Dems have 5 GOP senators they need to target to switch parties...

They switch parties and then get primaried by a real democrat. If they win the primary, they then have to go against a far-right candidate who will have much of the switcher’s base of votes on their side.

I have no idea if this is true...but it sounds worth the trouble

There also has to be more pressure on people like Cruz and the other elected officials who publicly supported this.    Dems should be getting messaging going non stop and demanding investiga

That won't happen in every case. Even if 1 switches, you're in better shape than with none.

Let's dig into it.

Romney-Utah: Not likely, but could be convinced. Re-election in 2024
Sasse-Nebraska: Not likely, but could be convinced. Re-election in 2026
Collins-Maine: 2nd most likely of the 5. Re-election in 2026
Murkowski-Alaska: Most likely of the 5. Re-election in 2022
Toomey-Pennsylvania: Not running for re-election (at least not as an R, LOL)

Of those three, Collins and Sasse have the most time until re-election. Murkowski has consistently bucked the GOP so she's probably the most likely target.

The question is what is the DNC willing to bend on as far as party platform.

Those are the only 5 that will vote to convict.

This is probably true but I'm not 100% sold on the logic.

Paul did this in an effort to create a hit list for Trump to target. We know McConnell is open to having the trial. He already said it was appropriate and yet he voted against it.

This could easily just be cover for Republicans between now and the trial. Thats probably not the case but its possible.

Tipping your hand now wouldn't amount to much except put a huge target on your back.

To be clear... I'm not really sold on my logic either.

Optimistic thinking!

None of them are switching parties...

The grounds to call it unconstitutional when nearly all legal scholars agree it is constitutional makes no sense. Cowards, all of them. McConnell put it out there he wanted to move on from Trump and the base fought back which gave cover to the Senators who may have voted to convict. Pretty clear they just want to sweep this under the rug and make it go away.  Now the GOP will definitely splinter. Fuck them. We'll take suburban and college educated voters who want to cross the line. Now the dems just need to get shit done.

lol... if by splinter you mean get slightly chipped... then yeah, they'll splinter.

half the ones that were angry will forget completely about it.

they lose 5% of their base. the rest are completely manipulated and all of their leaders love it.
