Popular Post Starkiller
Just say they are delaying a trial until a DOJ/FBI investigation of the insurrection has time to gather information. Starkiller
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/21/legal-scholars-federalist-society-trump-convict-461089?cid=apn Former President Donald Trump can be convicted in an impeachment trial for his role in inciting the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6 even though he is no longer in office, a bipartisan group of constitutional law scholars wrote in a letter Thursday. “We differ from one another in our politics, and we also differ from one another on issues of constitutional interpretation,” wrote the signatories, which include the co-founder and other members of the conservative Federalist Society legal group. “But despite our differences, our carefully considered views of the law lead all of us to agree that the Constitution permits the impeachment, conviction, and disqualification of former officers, including presidents.” More than 150 legal scholars signed on to the letter, which was obtained by POLITICO. They include Steven Calabresi, the co-founder of the Federalist Society; Charles Fried, who served as solicitor general under Ronald Reagan and is now an adviser to the Harvard chapter of the Federalist Society; Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University and adjunct scholar at the libertarian Cato Institute; and Brian Kalt, a law professor at Michigan State University and leading scholar on the specific question of whether former officials can be impeached. tgo
tgo
Biden is leaking that he doesn't object to McConnell's request to delay Trump's trial until February. Pelosi and Schumer pushing ahead with doing it next week, which will delay Biden's cabinet hearings and legislative work. Psaki also said today that Biden's position on the filibuster hasn't changed, in other words - he wants it intact. It seems pretty clear that Biden and McConnell are working together to try and box in/needle Pelosi and Schumer on impeachment. oldschool

All these names and you realize how fucking ancient the leaders of this government are. The youngest one mentioned there (Chuck) is 70 years old and is the youngest by far. Clearly Biden prefers to get his government off the ground but its a stretch to say he's working with McConnell to box pelosi/Schumer in. I also think you are reading too much into the filibuster answer the press secretary gave today. All she said is that his current position is the same as before. Doesn't mean he's not open to it being removed if needed. He simply isn't going to play that card at this stage of the game. IsntLifeFunny
More information coming out Trump’s campaign directly financed January 6th. Former President Trump’s campaign had paid out more than $2.7 million to several individuals and firms behind the Jan. 6 rally in Washington that devolved into a violent insurrection at the Capitol, the Center for Responsive Politics reported on Friday. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/535440-trump-campaign-paid-27-million-to-organizers-of-rally-ahead-of-capitol-riot OILERMAN
Starkiller
https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/22/politics/impeachment-articles-schumer/index.html The second Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump is scheduled to begin on February 9 after Senate leaders reached a deal to push it back, giving Trump's legal team more time to prepare and Senate Democrats a chance to consider Covid-19 legislation and to confirm President Joe Biden's Cabinet. House Democrats will formally walk over the single article of impeachment against Trump to the Senate on Monday evening, but the agreement between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will push back the substance of the trial until February. Without an agreement, the trial would have started the afternoon after the article was transmitted to the Senate. tgo

Titans279
Who thinks they will actually convict? I tend to think that they won't. It will be a death sentence (likely only politically!) to do it for most Senators.
