How often does a team have a chance this late in the year to make a single change and become contenders again? Get the man on the phone and offer him a 2 year contract.

My heart-warming conspiracy is that Vrabel officially kept the DC position open because Pees told him he may want to come back later this season or after a 1-season hiatus.

Yeah, but at the same time fuck Bowen’s feelings or career trajectory. If they want to compete it’s obviously the right move. As I alluded to earlier, I honestly don’t know of many situations like this. I can’t think of a single player we could have traded for this year who would come close to the impact Pees would have made to this team. He instantly revamps the defense because of his ability to properly run the scheme they’re attempting and failing to run.

Oh I'm with you, I just don't count on Vrabel seeing it that way since he's been Vrabel's loyal understudy for years.

I'd be on cloud 9 if they brought Pees back as DC next week, and I'd do it in a heartbeat. I just don't know that Vrabel will - and I bet he is wearing tired of the Pees rollercoaster knowing him.

If Pees still wants to coach next year, then it would be malpractice not to bring him back.

I kind of doubt Vrabel would want to adversely affect Bowen's career by bringing Pees back this year and instantly re-installing him as DC though and it doesn't sound like he'd be open to serving in a consultant role.

Being that he never actually named a DC they would likely work in tandem without having the title this season. It definitely could happen and would give the defense a huge boost schematically at least.

So the first thing that popped into my head was even if pees was hired, how long until we saw a noticeable improvement in the defense.  If it is just bad playcalling/ gameplanning then I would think it could be fairly quickly. May take longer if it is actually coaching the players on different techniques and keys/reads and things like that.
