So I had a discussion with some buddies and co workers today.

I find it sad how the Government has been able to dumb down the curriculum and it's citizens. I feel like the Government has way to much power over the curriculum. I remember the proficiency test became popular when I was in Elementary.

I remember teachers ending their lessons to get us prepared to take this test in 9th grade. I was in High school & remember Bush implementing no child left behind for the younger generation.

I was in 4th grade when teachers began preparing us to take the test. It wasn't even a real test obviously, but they spend a chunk of time just teaching us how to take these new scantron tests. Then we go over what we needed to know. Why am I learning in 4th grade about a test im taking in 9th grade? I mean a 4th graders curriculum obviously is nothing what a 9th graders is. Kids aren't being taught how to be well rounded and cultured.

I'm in a group before work and it's completely evident that those older than me and younger than me have no idea what civics is. They have an idea of what Capitalism, Socialism & Communism is, but it's very vague detail.

That's really what the elite & government want Imo. I'm self taught and read alot and love history. History is a great reference point to see what could happen in the future. There are always clues in history.

I just find it scary there are so many ignorant (Not their fault) people who are clueless about Civics, voting. Really people don't even know what they're voting for or what their candidate represents.

I suspect the fault lies more now with our social media that attract people to bubbles where their own prejudices and grievances are constantly re-enforced, and given a constant stream of outrage to keep the clicks going, the profits rising. Just look at so many of the threads here - inane complaining people and culture, and things that either we have little or no control over or are simply unimportant. Its seldom about policies. And if they are about policy they are often just dismissed as socialist.

I find it really interesting that the voters of Florida voted to give felons the right to vote and raise the minimum wage. Two things the Republicans oppose, yet those same voters continue to elect Republicans. Electing leaders is all about partisanship, seldom about policies.

Why doesn't the title describe the subject of the post?

I just find it sad how so many people lack an understanding of Civics an Economics. We have people voting on candidates who are pretty ignorant to alot of things. Its actually scary to be honest. If you dont have a basic grasp on economics and civics how on Earth do you even know who and what you're voting for? I dont think people are stupid, I just think they're ignorant and dont even understand Government, Civics nor economics. I think in order to have the right to vote you should be able to pass a test imo. Before you graduate High school you should have to be fully educated on American core values and precepts of America.
