Jamal already answered it.  It's the verb choice.  Consuming audiobooks is great (I do it and agree that drive-time is better for it).  My position is that listening isn't "reading."  You don't say you are "reading the news" by listening to news on the radio.  You don't "read" a movie based on a book. ((Note to Jamal, I was careful to note the LoTR trilogy was Peter Jackson's to side-step your "word for word" argument))

We have verbs for specific actions.  The only reason people use "read" for audiobooks is the inclusion of the word "book."  This is something I figure Jamal would agree with if he didn't say it - it's up his pedantic alley.

I thought you guys were joking lol. This thread. Whew 😅

I didn’t ban him but completely trust the judgment of the people who can make these decisions. We aren’t aiming for super “woke” here and I wouldn’t be on a site like that. Just general human decency.

I lean right on several issues and argue quite fervently in the political forum.  I've never been called a Nazi and no one has ever suggested I am racist other than rolltide.     I disagreed

One of those people pretty much called me a Nazi after being e-friends for nearly a decade so I do question it.  Just saying.     And, to edit, when the moderation crew basically all skews to t

Doesn’t mean you’re right to bring it up. That’s on a personal level and regardless of his pushing shouldn’t result with that kind of response. Direct insults about how he’s an idiot fair better. It doesn’t matter if he asked you to respond in such a manner.

I guess the best way I can say this is it’s a lot less in magnitude for me to call him an idiot and repeat it many times over than for you to say that. Let off of it.

I'm going to disagree with you. If someone can't let it go and asks (demands) repeatedly over the course of a year and starts crying every time there's a thread where it might loosely, tangentially be related to anything ... and then they get their answer, they're not the victim.

And, again, it's always public. For someone who's so personally offended and apparently has this vibrant PM life that he keeps citing, it's interesting that he's never once reached out personally. So things that might be said personally get aired publicly. Even things that are better shared privately.

Think what you want. Don’t talk about people’s kids. It ruins the discussion. Then we don’t get to keep joking.

I've been honest with him. Not joking. You may be joking, but he's legit hurt and has been. Not the best laughing matter. Also not a matter I'm willing to soften on.

Nah.  Just confused.  At least initially.  My opinion of you has Titanic’d since roughly a year ago.  Bringing up that you’re a piece of shit isn’t being hurt.  It’s just bringing up that you’re a piece of shit.  And the more you try and explain the opposite, you’re gradually revealing just how true that is to others.  Keep digging your own grave though.

That’s all fine. I’m not joking. I’m saying to stop. The joking part is the rest of us. It goes into the quintessential part of this thread. There are lines that shouldn’t be crossed. He has acted like a victim, and I disagree with him and side with you on that. It doesn’t change my opinion.

I figured this was the place to air it out.  ;)

I'm pretty sure that discussion escalated rather quickly. To the point that I still remember it. He was very much not okay with my terminology.

I was probably over-caffeinated or something.  The original posting came after you corrected me on something similar in a thread - so it was just returning serve.  It came back recently when a librarian friend posted about audiobooks "counting as reading" when promoting reading.  She didn't take to being corrected, either.  I held my tongue with my examples with her because snark can be dangerous on social media.

If you do use examples in the future, Dr Seuss is better than anything else you said.
