begooode Posted August 4, 2020 Report Share Posted August 4, 2020 So Trump insists on railing against the optics of more testing showing more cases, but then wants to take the benefit of this big number in the denominator -- 'see, this shows everything!' We're talking about thousands of Americans dying and he wants to cherry pick stats. To me the per capita makes sense, but really there's just one measure that doesn't fit easily into a graph, and that's: deaths vs a country's available resources + that country's culture. There's no question we have the resources, but our ability to manage the culture is pretty weak by design. We don't do self-sacrifice that well or that long. As far as marshaling those resources and leading its citizens, obviously Trump is about the last person you'd consider for the task. If you ever watched 30 seconds of his asinine TV shows; that was all there was to it. He would repeat exactly whatever his guest whose product he was having his contestants market said as to how to market it, and brag about how great he was at selling things. But I think his fans get off on it, sort of feeds some internal "we'll show them!" register. I'm not sure why he even did the interview, it was like watching a cat trying to beat a human in chess.
