NFL calling for a $40 million cut in the salary cap this season

Recommended Posts

Seems like a tactic to get players to give in on the salary escrow fund. Very few teams would be willing to cut the salary cap this year.

Why the hell can’t owners agree to just spread out losses over the life of the CBA and move on?

The revenue hit would be a big issue for some of the cash poor owners they would have massive cash flow issues if they had to pay players full freight this season and next, there is no way they are going to be willing to spread the full financial hit over 10 years, there needs to be some compromise between the two sides that deals with the lost revenue over a 4-5 year period.

I don’t think the players are in a mood to compromise. They are the ones taking all the risks, not the owners.

In addition, the more profitable teams that can afford to spend would have a significant competitive advantage over the cash strapped teams.

2021 is going to be a terrible year to be a free agent or even subject to the tag. This is probably why Henry signed so that he could get his 2020 and 2021 money guaranteed.

And why Clowney is an idiot, as I said multiple times several months ago.

As of now, according to spotrac, only 10 teams would be able to be under the cap for next season with a 40million cap cut.

If you account for the rookie pool it's closer to 6 teams.

The eagles would be fucked with being 100million over the cap.

That last quote is basically bullshit.  Freeing up 10 mill in cap room would be pretty damn easy for any team.  Just convert salary to signing bonus for a couple players
