Righteous
Brees didn’t say anything racists. Social media has become a bully. My only question though: is Brees as offended by cops desecrating the flag by wearing black and white flags with a thin blue line on it??? I doubt it...so it’s really not about the fucking flag. Would you hug them, love them, kiss them, say they are the best in the world, ask for their forgiveness???? Or would you be angry as shit, call them an asshole, blame them for your sore jaw, be distrustful, etc.???? I get it though...racists are incapable of seeing others as even being human. I specifically that Brees may not be like those people but fair or not, that "disrespect the flag" rhetoric has become synonymous with people who purposely made the kneeling about the flag in order to deflect from the real conversation black people were trying to have. When he uses that flag and country stuff, he needs to understand how that comes off to a lot of people who are sick and tired of being talked down to about the "right way" to protest often by people who don't plan on listening either way. CreepingDeath
14 hours ago, BudAdams said: Wrong. There was absolutely nothing wrong or racist about Brees' original comments that caused this firestorm. If anyone was offended by it, then they are easily offended and yes he absolutely caved to the PC police for PR. The fact he's lined up for the NFL Sunday Night gig surely played into the PR decision. The fact is that plenty of people believe that anything but standing for the national anthem/flag is a sign of disrespect and it's a huge reason why the anthem protests did nothing in 2016/2017. Is that 100% right or just? Not at all but that's reality. Anyone who tries to sell products, services, or lobby for legislation knows damn well that you don't do it by pissing off the people you need support from. IIRC, blacks constitute 13% of the population so they have no chance to implement change unless the majority of whites and other racial groups buy in. It took America seeing the Arbery and Floyd videos in a time where it was literally the only thing on the news in Covid-19 coverage coma that worked to get the issue center stage. Brees clearly isn't racist and plenty of people who agree with him on the anthem/flag issue are also not racist. The problem is that sheeple like yourself pander to the outrage of the moment and what Brees said is nothing compared to the systematic racism or police brutality issues. In fact, Brees said in the original interview that he supported the actual issues but disagreed that the anthem protest was an effective form of protest. He's 100% entitled to that opinion and the fact is that millions of people agree with him. Taking a knee didn't solve a damn thing back then and it won't do a thing if they do it again this fall. If there was nothing wrong with what he said, then why the problem? Why the apology? In his own words, he admitted he was wrong. You are free to be a hypocrite, but you should expect to get called out on it (or "bullied" if you want to be a baby about it). If taking a knee doesn't solve anything, do you think any form of protest is valid? 13 hours ago, GOAT9 said: He lowered taxes, re-negotiated trade deals, and grew the economy? It has never been. We can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them from the real issues that face our black communities. We did this back in 2017, and regretfully I brought it back with my comments this week. We must stop talking about the flag and shift our attention to the real issues of systemic racial injustice, economic oppression, police brutality, and judicial & prison reform. We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history! If not now, then when? We as a white community need to listen and learn from the pain and suffering of our black communities. We must acknowledge the problems, identify the solutions, and then put this into action. The black community cannot do it alone. This will require all of us. It's not about the flag or the anthem This is why these conversations need to happen. Changing the subject to the military is a purposeful tactic. 2 hours ago, oldschool said: I get it but don't assume everyone who views the flag as a salute to military service is a closet bigot. You resent them and look at them as entitled crybabies that are trying to hurt your feelings. Sadly, I think a lot of white people feel this way and this is precisely why black people's pleas have fallen on deaf ears; you can't even hear them because all you choose to hear is the stuff that allows you to dismiss them off hand as whiners. You have no empathy for them so stop pretending that you do. The fact that you and others are unwilling to sit down like adults, hear both sides, and actually work on real progress to solve the issues is why there is never going to be consensus and this issue is always going to be a problem. "Black people just want to be heard." Yeah no shit they just want to be heard, but they don't want to hear anyone else. Theres the fucking problem you stupid fuck. Its a small minority that used the flag to deflect from the real meaning of the protest 4 years ago. Many said ,including Anquan Boldin who's brother was killed by cops, that choosing to kneel during the anthem would take away from the overall message and it did. Personally I didn't have a problem with Kaepernick kneeling nor did I have a problem with those that disagreed with it. Recent events have done way more to move the needle as they should. Its forced guys like Brees to reevaluate his stance which is a good thing.

No I have been waiting for people to come sit at the table to actually talk so they can be heard and an idea can be made to solve the problem. But all im getting is "you are racist, you aren't listening." When you are done throwing your tantrum and are ready to have a real 2 way conversation. (Because its going to be 2 ways, not just your way.) Then you can let me know.
