Seriously think about Trump and the GOP - not only absurd but they look like complete jackasses

Look at this meme below.  Stare it.  Think how goofy the guy is.  Then  contemplate the idea that the Republican party is 100% this guy.   They do everything he says.  They go along with ever thing he does.  He is the face of the party.   He is the Republican party and the Republican party is he.

Absorb that and then look at the pictures some more.  Think about the last few decades. The Republican party spent resources and time trying to build an image of "strength", "character", "integrity", "ideals" etc.  To some degree, the GOP did build that brand.  Now all those decades of work result in the image of a buffoon, an imbecile, and a clown.  Look at the pictures some more and think about this guy. He would not be a believable character in a work of fiction - he is too absurd.

How did a major political party let itself devolve into a complete jack-ass?

This line of thinking is not actually helpful because it makes people think they don’t have to make the arguments against Trump. We do. We can’t just preach to the choir.

On plenty of topics people do trust Trump more than Biden. Not everyone agrees with liberals that he’s a completely incompetent buffoon.

It’s important to not just say he’s a joke because we need to get people who don’t necessarily think he is, or think that both he and Biden are a joke, to vote for Biden.

The really need to work on hammering home the fact that he inherited a good economy. Show him railing against Obama's unemployment numbers and the good stock market numbers. Show him calling it "a bubble" in the debates then show him bragging about near identical numbers just a handful of months later.

Tell the audience he thinks they are all stupid.

Bingo. This should definitely play into the overall strategy, because A) people don’t like to be the ass end of the joke & B) it’s very easily proven.

Honestly though, what is it going to take?

You can't argue or reason with Trump supporters anymore (could you ever?). This isn't about liberal or conservative ideas. If you can't look at the very nature of his human behavior and see that you are a lost cause.

The "trust" people have in Trump is not bought in good faith. There is essentially state media empowering his unprecedented willingness to lie and a congress that realizes stacking all of the checks and balances in their favor is the key to sustained power. Unfortunately, this is just the way it is.

What kind of discourse do you imagine is going to make people literate to the kind of media they consume everyday?

What kind of argument is to be made against Trump when someone looks at his twitter feed and accepts that?

This line of thinking--that we have to "convince" our neighbors is rooted in this respect for "both sides" nonsense that normalized Trump in the first place.

I think it's perfectly acceptable now to try shame and hope that hits some of these people home. I am done pretending like this is just a difference in rational perspectives.

You are asking people to sit at the bargaining table with a drooling dog.

Good luck with that.

It’s not about the thors or Tuxs of the world though.

There are plenty of people who don’t really like him but will vote for him because they view him as well equipped to manage the economy.

Liberals obviously think that’s nuts, but it’s actually the majority opinion.

Recession/depression might actually make that more important part of voters’ calculus unless Dems make the case that he isn’t, or at least that Biden has an equal ability to manage the economy, or if people start to blame Trump for mismanaging it.

It is about them though. I am done with the myth that there is a significant conservative group that is constantly supporting Trump and Republican policies simply because of the economy. I am going to need evidence to accept that is reality and not a talking point heldover from defending George W. Bush.

I have interacted with a lot of conservatives and conservative media and the economy is hardly the core of the message. The radicalized rhetoric, what is essentially propaganda is common core for people like  Plant, Levine, and Limbaugh. I listen to it. I see the conservatives on social media. It's not some balanced, nuanced discussion about economic anxiety.

Stop normalizing Trump.
