The rumor on the old board at the time was Fisher wanted Cutler and Chou was standing on the war room table screaming for Leinart.
abenjami
Let's be honest. Fisher most likely wanted Gostkowski in that draft. And taking him at #3 would have been a better move than what Reese did. rns90

The players he extended were just terrible roster management In fairness teams have learned a lot since then overall but Robinson def gets it Why is this pinned to the top of every page? It was a good post and all but not legendary or anything. JMoney420
rns90
Floyd was abysmal for the most part from 2003 onward. He does get credit for drafting the two OT's in 2005 but that's about it. OILERMAN

Without that pick, the team never contends for any significant amount of time.

But yes, fortunately Reese drafted McNair over Fisher’s objections. Finding a franchise QB is always the most important thing.

His issue was he stuck with older declining players and players at non crucial positions. Paying big money to Wycheck, Matthews, Piller, Sanders, Hentrich, NOD. Bruce Matthews was like 37 when he signed a 4 year deal, Wycheck was close to done on his last deal. Thigpen was injured when he signed him He put himself in a corner to the point of Rolle, Mason etc.... holding him hostage in their primes He accidently guaranteed the RFA tenders of Aric Morris and two other scrubs Terrible job maintaining the roster once they became a SB contender

I seem to recall either Reese or Fisher laying it out in an interview a couple years ago: Both Reese and Fisher wanted Cutler. Chow was banging the table for Leinart. But of course, Bud trumped them all.
