At this point, there should just be a flat 3 week mandatory nationwide quarantine and Marshall law.

3 weeks. Nobody goes anywhere unless it’s to the grocery store, drug store, or gas station. All restaurants, bars, shopping centers closed.

It would suck, but it would be more effective than a state by state, incremental, half-ass measure. Just do it, get it under control, and bring back normalcy much sooner.

LOL - yeah.. and half the ppl calling it hoax throw a party.   That would never work in reality.

With Trump is now calling it a national emergency, most of the cultists will follow his proclamations if he supports a full fledged quarantine.

I imagine there’s a decent overlap in Trumplandia with doomsday preppers.

Note on economic outlook:

The hospitality industry, which includes hotels and restaurants, was 7.8% of GDP in 2018. I assume it is around that now.  What we are experiencing probably means at least a 25% hit to that industry over the next month or so, and could be a lot more.  So that in isolation means a 2% hit to the entire US economy.  But it will not be in isolation. Other industries will be hit directly and indirectly.  So that means well over a 2% hit to the economy.  Just top of my head, I would assume it would be more than double that since this is so widespread and could be many multiples of it.  Some industries will see growth but they will be in the minority.  So, we could be looking at a 5% to 10% economic slump out of the blue.  I do not see how the US economy could handle that big of a sudden shock without going into a depression since that alone would be a huge decline in economic activity and it will have negative vibration of spiraling down demand to make it go deeper.

https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/15/trump-offers-large-sums-for-exclusive-access-to-coronavirus-vaccine

The Trump administration has offered a German medical company “large sums of money” for exclusive access to a Covid-19 vaccine, German media have reported.

The German government is trying to fight off what it sees as an aggressive takeover bid by the US, the broadsheet Die Welt reports, citing German government circles.

The US president had offered the Tübingen-based biopharmaceutical company CureVac “large sums of money” to gain exclusive access to their work, wrote Die Welt.

According to an anonymous source quoted in the newspaper, Trump was doing everything to secure a vaccine against the coronavirus for the US, “but for the US only”.

On 11 March, CureVac released a statement that its CEO, the US citizen Daniel Menichella, was unexpectedly leaving the firm and would be replaced by the company’s founder, Ingmar Hoerr.

At the start of the month, Menichella was invited to the White House in Washington to discuss strategy for the rapid development and production of a coronavirus vaccine with Trump, the vice-president, Mike Pence, and members of the White House coronavirus task force.

If Trump tested positive they would never admit it

They won’t even admit his true height and weight. As if they would announce he had the coronavirus...
