THAT's the kind of death rate I would need to justify this bullshit. We would need 1400% more deaths based on that logic. For what it’s worth, a 10% death rate would kill almost 90% of the world’s population in 20 years...and that doesn’t even account for all the other various causes of death. Never mind the economy or politics; the entire human race would be on a fast track to extinction....It would quickly deteriorate into feudal warlords and serious Mad Max/Thunderdome shit. I, for one, hope it doesn’t get to that point. I suppose it’s a matter of determining one’s definition of what an “acceptable” death rate would be....and different people will have different opinions. The more liberal approach would probably be “screw the economy, we have to save everyone”. ... A more conservative-oriented mindset would say “ the sacrifices are unfortunate...but we have to keep moving forward” But ultimately, it’s neither. We can’t save everyone ...but we can’t just let people keep dying and accept it as the cost of doing business. Not when it’s so easily avoidable. The real hell of it is that so many countries aren’t even having this conversation....they’re already on top of it . Their leaders have preached PPE and social distancing from day one....and after bringing the initial surge under control, they’ve been able to resume some level of normalcy without having their numbers explode or deaths escalating. Let’s face it: we Americans are spoiled and lazy. We want the problem fixed NOW!!!!...but we also don’t feel like we should be obligated to be part of the solution. We want some magical silver bullet ...just a quick vaccine shot ....maybe a few pills or whatever and then BOOM! No more COVID. Maybe one day...but we’re not there yet. And until that day comes, we need to follow the better blueprint as laid out by countries who have been far more successful at containing the virus and getting things back to normal. And if I'm inside an establishment, even if a mask is not required, if I see other people wearing masks, I will wear one anyway. I know that to libtards, following the law, being respectful of others, and behaving with decency are concepts that are completely foreign and outside of their vocabulary, but for the rest of us, that is how we live our lives.
