Callidus
So this is another crazy meaningless conversation, but it is the off season. If you could make the season format into whatever you could, what would it be? From stay the same, to whatever you would like. Normally this would be where I put my own opinion first, but I wanted to see what you all say before I post.
reo
What are you trying to fix?
OILERMAN
Eliminate the refs calling the games all together. Do everything from the booth in real time. One ref on the field to get the buzz down and spot the ball and blow the whistle. This would improve how the games are called and speed up games. scine09
Don’t throw flags unless the call is so obvious that anyone watching the game knows there’s a penalty.
ctm
Have only 2 pre-season games that aren't sold as part of the season ticket package. Sell those tickets separately at a heavily discounted price. Owners would never do it, but it would grow the fan base and would allow a lot of kids to see a game they might never see. nine
I'm a big proponent of using an "eye in the sky" official and utilizing every technological advancement possible to ensure that games are called correctly. I find it ridiculous that the NFL has been so steadfast in their refusal to adopt and utilize new technology. The owners are obviously hell-bent on adding another game. To get the NFLPA's buy-in, they should offer the players *two* additional bye weeks, arranged so that no team plays more than 6-7 games in a row without a bye. Or instead of additional byes....perhaps a system where players were only eligible to play in 15 out of 17 games. I'd be interested to see how teams would work the gameday rosters if they were forced to make every player inactive at least twice a year. I also find it ridiculous that the players are barely paid league minimum for postseason games. These are the league's most lucrative and profitable games of the season, bringing in enormous advertising revenue.....but for most players, playoff games are a huge pay cut. At the very least, the NFLPA should insist that each player's postseason pay be an extension of his regular season earnings. Number9
Nash
2 pre-season games..expand the rosters to 55, and expand the draft to 9 rounds.. let all 55 dress for each game.. move trade deadline to January 1st.. use the xfl kickoff and punt rules..use college rules for OT.. Callidus
All both reviews and adding a gps tracker to the ball would be two of my biggest wishes. Adding a second bye would be good. And maybe play by aztec rules and sacrifice the loser to the gods. Last team alive wins the Lombardi. They would need to expand the draft to like 60 rounds but whatever. sunworshipper
smokeater
Gladiator days baby. Everyone signs their life-waiver before crossing onto the field. Nothing is illegal except that there are only two times weapons are allowed on the field. The extra point is one offensive player with his choice of spear from the 30 with the defense lined up the full length of the goal line-takes his pick. Same thing goes for the offense when they turn the ball over. Coordinators take turns fist fighting for 1st and 2nd half choice of ball or defer. Head coaches fist fight for overtime-last man standing wins. Meanwhile, back in reality, reffing the games is the biggest heartache right now. Refs should err on the side of not throwing the flag. Should never be an inadvertent flag because they are erring on the side of not throwing it. The "eye in the sky" type ref could also work. The new proposed schedule is fine by me as long as they draw a line and go no further. With the 17 game season, I'd be fine with a 1 game inactive per year policy that way all of the season records dating back to the 16 game season will stay normalized against the new 17 game season. Almost like 1 PTO day per year.
scine09
I don’t like the players being active only 15 or 16 games if there’s 17 games. Part of the beauty of the schedule is everyone in the division plays nearly the same teams. I’m sure you’d all be very happy if the Chiefs chose to bench Patrick Mahomes for their game against the Colts and the week after played him against the Titans. Not only would the Colts have an advantage in that they wouldn’t see Mahomes and the Titans would but the Titans would be getting a rested Mahomes. Yes, injuries happen and obviously guys need to sit if they do. And I understand benching important players in the final week if your playoff spot is locked in and you have nothing to gain. But without those two scenarios, healthy players need to play.

Or maybe the first. You bench all or most them in 1 game and give up 1 loss knowing your best chance is with everyone all year.
wtenn
I'd push the Super Bowl back a couple of weeks so that it always fell on the day before President's Day. That way most people could attend Super Bowl parties and get appropriately blitzed without having to be worried about work the next day. I think it’s possible that with the extra week they add another bye which would take the season to that Sunday. wtenn
