Matt Pees Leaving Titans

Recommended Posts

I remember part of Pees compensation/perks was to get his son a start in NFL coaching.  He must not have very much potential.

Is going from being an NFL quality control assistant to a high school head coach really a positive career advancement? I don’t think so.

I can’t imagine the Titans fired him. Not sure why he would go to high school though.

Pepper Johnson was just fired as DC from the XFL.  Has ties to Mike Vrabel, and has coached defensive line in his career.  Already articles out linking him to us, wouldn't be surprised to see him added in some capacity.

If it's a decent sized HS, he'll be making more money.

Not that good in terms of future job growth though. If you want to be an NFL coach then it’s easier to get career advancement staying where he was.

Doubtful. Even QC guys make 6 figs after their first year. It’s the first year that sucks. Neighbor only made like $65k his first year as a QC guy. He’s not in year 3 and making more than double that. Plus you add in the $110k in bonuses they got from the playoffs and you got $200k in salary. I doubt any HSFB coach is making that.

Pure speculation but this part of Ohio is where the Pees family was from.  BTW, Matt Pees was a HS head coach when he joined the Titans.  IMO, it was always about being able to work with his dad as opposed to some huge NFL aspirations.
