Popular Post tgo
The Titans top free agent target should be Jadaveon Clowney. He had his best statistical year under Vrabel and Bowen and Crennel, who could all possibly end up on staff here. He’s a missing element of the defense when it comes to Vrabel’s diamond front that we weren’t able to run much of this year. This is a dominant run player who sets the edge and is a highly underrated pass rusher. He would add a new and unique element to this defense to allow it to reach its full potential and achieve the vision that Vrabel has for the defense and the diamond front. PFF agrees: “TENNESSEE TITANS: EDGE JADEVEON CLOWNEY Tennessee shocked the football landscape this year and nearly made its way to the Super Bowl before blowing a 10-point lead to the Chiefs. Resigning Ryan Tannehill — as odd as that would have sounded a year ago — seems like a must. The only majorhole in their roster that need to be filled after that situation is their edge unit. Jadeveon Clowney has said he wants to go to a contender, and the Titans have proved that they can be exactly that. Clowney finished 2019 as the 10th highest-graded edge defender and won on 16.6% of his pass-rushing reps, which ranked 29th. The interest has to be mutual, for the right price, of course.” https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-free-agent-each-team-needs-to-pursue-2020-offseason This of course assumes that he makes it to free agency, which he very well may not. But with Seattle’s frugal ways under Schneider and them not being able to use the franchise tag, it is possible that he hits free agency. If Conklin and Ryan depart, we could afford to pay him 17-18M annually. His injury history is something you have to accept and live with when signing this player, and he’d have to be managed accordingly. Popular Post Jonboy
I’d love to have him and posted about going after him during the season, but I’ll play devil’s advocate here... - Has never had a double digit sack season - Has played all 16 games only once in his career That being said, I agree with PK’s article that pass rush should be our #1 offseason priority. I don’t think a guy like Judon moves the needle much. Clowney and Ngakoue would be the only two who’d really make a big impact, imo. Pees, who is gone now obviously but shares the Belichick philosophy with Vrabel/Crennel, point blank said he doesnt care as much about sacks earlier this season. Re: injuries - touche and you have to be clear eyed about this going in and have a special management plan for this player, something Vrabel/Piraino/Toriscelli seem adept at doing for specific veteran players. Brian Bell is our assistant strength and conditioning coach who came over with Vrabel and trained with Clowney for most of his career in Houston. Vrabel and Bowen know the player well in this regard. I’ll also add that our pro scouting director Brian Gardner was on staff with Houston when Clowney was drafted. AvgJoe
We need pass rush desperately and I don’t care where it comes from. Love Judon and Clowney. Someone with more knowledge of the cap than me, could we afford Tannehill, Henry, Judon/Clowney, and still bring Logan Ryan back?

Starkiller
They have to at least try to sign him. Unless Vrabel doesn’t like him, anyway. Whoever signs him will have to overpay to get him, of course, but how else are they going to boost the pass rush? They aren’t likely getting a big passer they can count on at #29. How about a nickel pass rush of Simmons, Casey, Landry, and Clowney? Jonboy, tgo, and Justafan 1

How about a nickel pass rush of Simmons, Casey, Landry, and Clowney? Exactly. It’s the biggest need and I personally think there are only a handful of guys who’d even move the needle as far as pass rusher goes. Titans279
It seems like a near certainty that we'll get a big money FA pass rusher. Now is the time to go all in. Edited January 23, 2020 by Titans279 tgo

Think he said Vrabel was the smartest coach he’s ever had in one interview I saw. I don’t think Clowney would get 10 sacks if he played a whole season for us. But I bet our unit as a whole would get 10+ sacks than it did without him. Simmons and Casey would get one on ones all day.
