So I hear the debates and debate with my friends. I think It's Funny how people talk smack about Tom Brady being a system Quarterback when Joe played in the West Coast system and a coach who was clearly ahead of his time. And played with Hall of Famers on both sides of the ball.

and not only that but Steve Young came in and had pretty much the same success. If anybody was a system Quarterback and benefited from the coaching and players around them it was Joe Montana.

And that's not a knock on Joe. You are put in whatever situation you are in but still have to win. But let's stop simply calling Tom a system QB who benefited from a great coach when Joe Montana was in a much better easier situation with coaching and hall of famers.

To me what those QBs did in the early stages was way more difficult these stats now are just watered down. Rules make it easier for passing. But 6>5

There's an argument to be made either way. I personally believe Montana was the better QB, but Brady has had a longer, far more decorative career. He's been to just as many Super Bowls as Montana (4) plus 5 more. I mean, there's only so much an asterisk can cover before it becomes useless.

Steve Young didn’t have the same success as Montana.  Montana won 4 SB’s, Young was lucky to win 1.  Young was no Montana.  Also, Montana went to KC and whipped the Oilers ass in the playoffs.  He was more than a system QB because Buddy Ryan pounded him for 3 quarters but he made the winning plays at the end.

Who thinks Brady is just a system QB?  The debate in the other thread is on whether Brady is washed up or not.

Apparently alot of people feel that way. You hear it on ESPN, Simple sports conversations etc. I'm sure 90% of this board have heard the Tom Brady is a system Quarterback excuse.

Why?

Jim Brown is the greatest RB in NFL history. Jerry Rice is the greatest WR in NFL history. Does anyone ask why?

Unitas was simply light years ahead of the rest of the league when it came to the modern passing game. When he threw a passing TD in 47 straight games no one else even came close to breaking that record until Drew Brees did it 52 years later back in 2012. The man was a legend.
