Side note on Bowen, who was Vrabel’s right hand man in Houston and followed him over -    He sat right next to Pees in the booth every game for the last two years as his wing man and underst

Yeah, I’m sure we’re gonna promote the quality control coach who has only otherwise ever been a high school coach to defensive coordinator.    Super likely.

That sucks. Did a great job overall. Especially at halftime adjustments.

Here’s my preliminary list upon brief consideration:

1. Shane Bowen

2. Romeo Crennel

3. John Pagano

4. Tyrone McKenzie

5. Bret Bielema

6. John Butler

7. Bobby King

8. Joe Cullen

Some other names worth a spare passing thought which are somewhat decent schematic fits:

James Bettcher

Ray Horton

Dom Capers

Rob Ryan

Greg Manusky

Jim Haslett

Marvin Lewis

Ted Monachino

These last few are all highly underwhelming to me sans Horton and Bettcher.

People may hate this but what about Ray Horton? He didn’t have the corners to run his scheme here before, but with Vrabel managing him, it is a workable option philosophically.

Highly complex 3-4 defense with two gapping base linemen and demands discipline and doesnt want over aggression. Also familiar with some of the personnel.

Not my first choice but i would take a ham sandwich run over at a truck stop before romeo.

I could get behind wade or rex but they are not what we are built for. I am not sure who fits us best.

Some good names. I like Philips. Plus, his father's a bum. So there's a connection.

But seriously, I really like our 3-4 scheme, and we have drafted for it. So it needs to be someone who knows that defense. I like Pees a lot. Hard, but expected, loss. Like the libido of a guy in retirement. Hopefully, a younger guy can be our Cialis (always ready, rather than hard for one shot), and get us back to the hump.

Thank God he’s gone. Was sick of his soft coverages and lack of blitzing. Need to find a more aggressive play caller defensively

I’m sure that he wanted to be more aggressive but would you leave our corners on an island with zero push up front? He did an excellent job with the personnel group he had, we would have lost games 100-0 otherwise.

The biggest gap with Pees leaving is his play calling experience.  Obviously the internal guys don’t have that, and that would cause me some concern.

Sounds like Bowen has been groomed for the role, And I trust Vrabel and Pees to be better judges of whether or not he is ready.

Teryl Austin and Joe Woods (neither have ties to organisation) would be other names that interest me.

What is the Bielema connection? I was surprised to see his name on your list. Mostly because I’m from Wisconsin.

DL coach for Belichick - has the college flare that Vrabel likes. Knows the scheme as we run a very similar scheme to the Patriots, and would offer continuity and also some excitement for the players.
