Titans DL underappreciated and underrated

Recommended Posts

What's crazy to me is that Simmons is only playing about 30% of the snaps each game. Been really curious why they have limited his snaps?

I know Daquon Jones is playing well.

When we have the goal line guys lined up with Simmons, Casey, & Jones. We are literally unmoveable.

The OL took a huge leap forward too

It was always going to be better as the year progressed. Needed time to gel, with a rookie and a FA as our starting OGs. Now, though? They are definitely the best run blocking unit in the league, and there's just no doubt. Could improve pass blocking, but Tanny is pretty good at helping them out, overall. But in run blocking? I wouldn't trade our OL for any in the league. It is absolutely the best, and a HUGE complement to Henry. Getting him to the line at full speed is essential to his game, and we are doing it consistently...even when the other team knows it is coming. That's crazy.

One of the units Robinson has built that doesn't get enough credit is the DL. Casey, Simmons, Jones and even Auston Johnson have been great this season. The goaline stand vs SD to start this run was not a fluke. This defense is great in short yardage and the DL is why. DaQuan Jones is one of the best players on the team in terms of doing his job.

The SD goaline stand, the NE goaline stand and last night's two 4th and 1 stops.

This team wins the battle on the OL and DL, usually in dominating fashion

Totally agree, even guys like Correa are making plays consistently.

On most of those short yardage stops it's the LB that have been making the play.  Earlier it was Evans and Brown, we saw backup Long with a key play last night.  The DL is creating the opptys, but the front 7 is playing really well together.  IMO above their talent level, which points to great coaching, something the Pats have been able to do over the years.  This team is in the zone right now...

It's the LBs because the DL's job is to open it up for them. They are doing that as well as a 3-4 DL possibly could. AND at the same time, Casey is still a good pass rusher. We are sometimes getting pressure with 3 guys rushing. Crazy.

Been keeping a close eye on Simmons I think we are being cautious with him he is playing well and should be out there more.

Yes, that was my point. Although I didn't specifically say it. He's making big plays every game. I thought he would play more in the playoffs.

As for the defensive line, I have been on this since Simmons was inserted into the lineup. Casey, Jones, Simmons is elite. Johnson has been very good. And the linebacker play behind has benefitted from the quality of the play in front. A healthy Mark Ingram would have helped the Ravens, but a healthy Jayon Brown would have helped the Titans.

Something interesting from this game was the nasty streak that came out from Simmons.  I dunno about spitting or whatever, but just saw that mean streak during the game.  Teams need players like that.  Hopefully he can control it though.
