AFC Championship Week: Titans @ Chiefs

Recommended Posts

This is going to sound silly but is a very fitting anecdote for this game.

Im a fairly good madden player. 1000s of hours over the past 15 years. There are times when I face an opponent who is able to just score quickly. I’ll find myself down 14-0 fast.

Problem is most people playing madden don’t care about clock management. So while they feel they’re imposing their will on me, their actually falling into that trap.

I usually receive the ball at half. So I make sure to manage the clock to allow myself the final drive of the half in order to gain a TD and then another after half.

Then the goal is to match and manage the clock to gain the last possession of the game. Some people eventually catch on and try to chew the clock but their O style just doesn’t allow it.

This is what I feel Vrabel and Co. are going to employ. It’s the biggest advantage to have. The ability to determine clock by possession. People think clock management is just ToP but it isn’t. They are going to put the Chiefs in uncomfortable clock situations to force errors and mistakes.

Don't get sucked in. Reo doesn't even understand what the Titans are doing most of the time. Reid has done a masterful job adapting his offense. I have no doubt he has a few wrinkles for the game on Saturday.  The issue for the Chiefs isn't their offense, it's their defense. Honest question. How do you think they plan to stop Henry? The Patriots and Ravens failed miserably at it.

I dont think KC needs to stop Henry. The defense needs to win a few times on 3rd down. KC offense is good enough to score on the Tenn defense. I think KC will be playing the vertical game. Mahomes is now 100% and running around , making plays, running for first downs and has plenty of weapons. The injury helped Mahomes to get better at staying in the pocket. I expect a shoot out and feel KC will win in a shoot out.

It's amazing how much you can learn about clock management playing Madden.

Belichick has made a living off of the whole - get the last possession of the half/first possession of the 2nd half to double dip.

I view controlling the clock as dictating the game on your terms.  Ideally, the Titans want to methodically move down the field and score on offense.  Obviously, a wide open quick score takes precedent in almost all cases.   Likewise, they want to win possessions on defense - whether it be forcing a punt or turnover or holding them to 3 points.

One aspect of the game worth noting - Hardeman is an explosive kick returner.  The Titans need Joseph to get touchbacks when kicking off.

Is anyone else thinking to themselves that we've been on the winning side of some close games with the Chiefs and they're due their revenge? There is some luck in football and the winds have been in our favor with KC.

One thing's for certain if we beat them we become to them what Baltimore was to us in the 2000s.

Crazy thing is that was the reason that I didn't want the Titans to play the Chiefs in the Wildcard round (this was before Pats were beaten by Dolphins). I figured they're due.

You seem to think the Titans defense is poor. Why?

Titans need to outscore KC.  Reid/KC record and results with Mahomes is all that is worth looking at.

Mahomes 24- 7 regular season  2-1 post season  76 td 18 Int  9412 Yards  4 rushing tds 500 yards 127-20 yards plus 31-40 yards plus  45 sacks

I think Chiefs win in a shoot out Sunday.
