Popular Post Jonboy
Good stuff here from Peter King. The last two NFL generations had 235-pound Earl Campbell (1978-’85) and 253-pound Jerome Bettis (1993-2005) as the big backs who lasted and punished defense after defense. This generation has the 247-pound Henry. (Quick story: I’m standing in the tunnel leading to the field Saturday night, maybe an hour before the game. Henry, with his short sleeves in the mist and fog, walks through the roped-off area. Pats fans on either side of the rope are watching, and a couple of fans turn in wide-eyed amazement after the 6-foot-3 Henry passes. One of the guys says: “HE’S YUGE!!!!!”) I’ll tell you something: neither Bettis nor Campbell ever had a playoff game like Henry’s in New England. His 34-carry, 182-yard game smothered the Patriots, and I will bet no player has ever had a more dominant drive (and I include Peyton Manning in that group) than Henry had at the end of the first half, when he gained all 75 yards in the decisive 75-yard touchdown drive that gave the Titans a 14-13 halftime lead. They wouldn’t need another point. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/01/06/nfl-wild-card-tom-brady-fmia-peter-king/#divisional-preview SuperFreak90, ChesterCopperpot1, smokeater, and 14 others 13
Popular Post CreepingDeath
This franchise has had some excellent RBs. The "Mount Rushmore" of franchise RBs is easy, though: Earl, Eddie, CJ, and now the King. Popular Post GLinks
I would say at this point - at least since 1970 - the Titans have the best collection of top RBs of any franchise in the NFL. Stan
He glides into tacklers. They don’t tackle him he tackles them it’s unbelievable how big he is, how fast he is. Truly remarkable how he turned his season and self around last year late December.
Number9
From Peter King. Good read. "What’s the most trusted truism in football? My vote goes to: Bill Belichick can take away the best thing any team does. He did it with Marshall Faulk in the Super Bowl 18 years ago, did it a few times with Marvin (Invisible Against the Patriots) Harrison, and did it last year by holding Rams running backs to 57 yards in the Super Bowl. But he couldn’t do it Saturday night. Derrick Henry ate his lunch." I thought the poison he picked was Henry. He was determined not to get lit up with the PA. I think he knew they couldn't count on outscoring the Titans if they tried to stop Henry because Henry was going to get his anyway. What he failed to realize was just how effect the Titans could be running Henry. Henry ran entire the field alone from the Titans 25 to a TD. Over and over, in a MF face. We have seen him do that several times. Belichick basically shut down the pass. That how afraid he was of TH and AJB, with all the other weapons we have for RT. Brady/Patriots got worse as the season progressed. Finally they stopped winning of reputation. Miami helped us a lot. If Miami can beat them, they have a lot of weaknesses. King points out all the players NE missed on, including AJB and Humphries. Edited January 6, 2020 by Number9 KB31

The reality is that he knew that stopping the explosive plays and forcing the Titans to drive the field would keep the score down and give them a chance. Explosive plays actually were in favor of NE (8 to 5). It largely worked as the game really came down to red zone efficiency. Titans were a perfect 2/2 and the Pats were 1/3. Vrabel and Pees will take the same approach this weekend against the Ravens. They live offensively on explosive plays from Jackson (run or pass). Force them to drive the field and win some 3rd down and RZ trips and the Titans can win this. Number9

It's going to be interesting seeing how they slow down Baltimore. rns90

He started the game attempting to stop explosive plays but they quickly switched to that 6 down linemen front with 7-8 in the box nearly every play.... as what Romo kept calling "that superbowl defense" They played 2 High but loaded the line up with everyone else. He tried to do both but pretty much put most of the focus on stopping henry in the second half... and we didnt care. We still ran him. Looked like Vrabes guessed we could pop 1 big play and that would be enough... but we didnt.. and it didnt matter. Romo said it 22 times during the game that Its a decision to take away the pass because the rush nets less yards. They still loaded up to stop the run though, even with 2H safeties.
