This thread was probably more justified after the Texans loss than yesterday’s.  Game was meaningless, and it didn’t really seem like we were playing to win, but rather just playing to get through and hope the Jets did their part to help us.  It wasn’t upsetting to me at all.  If we actually needed yesterday’s game to get into the playoffs, I bet Adoree and Henry both play and we don’t go so conservative on offense for half the game.

Saints game aside, the team being 9-7 (assuming they win the game Sunday versus the Houston B team) is marginal progress given the declaration from JRob and Vrabel in January 2018 that 9 wins and a wild card victory are not good enough.

Of course, the Titans are talented enough to beat anyone on their best day.  They are shaky enough to lose to nearly anyone on a given day too.  Guess what, you can say the same about nearly every team in the NFL aside from a few bottom feeders.  The Titans, with Henry at close to 100% and hopefully with Jackson back, absolutely can beat KC on the road.  Now, that would put them against the Ravens in round two whereas NE to me is much more vulnerable.

The NFL is all about matchups and winning certain aspects of games because injuries and bad officiating are almost givens for everyone.  It's about red zone efficiency, explosive plays, and turnover margin.  Yesterday, the Titans mainly lost because they gave up two explosive play touchdowns on defense and had an untimely TO (on a missed penalty).

We were missing both starting corners (2nd most important defensive position) against one of the NFL’s premier powerhouse offenses. That’s why we lost our early lead.

Also were missing our pro bowl RB who is the most explosive player in the NFL.

As @Jonboy said, we’d be in a much better position with more room for error if we had gone with Tannehill from the start.

The problem is, the obvious strength of the Titans at the beginning of the year was an elite secondary that has now become decimated by injuries. If a team loses it's strength, its hard to come back from. Butler and Jackson were way better this year than anyone gave them credit for

There's no question that the team fucked up the QB and kicker spots and it cost them games and in all likelihood the division title.    Regardless, they are fortunate as hell that they have a relatively easy chance to make the playoffs now while being able to rest Henry yesterday.

I do think the defense scares the hell out of me regardless of Jackson coming back or not.  A good offense (Ravens, KC, Houston, pretty much any NFC team) is going to put points on the Titans no matter what.

The offense is obviously the strength now.  We have receivers who are as good and as dangerous as anyone in the league with the ball in their hands.  The issue is the ball isn't getting in their hands nearly enough, we aren't staying on the field long enough for the style of offense that they want to execute, we aren't creative enough to keep the defense guessing.  We shouldn't be worse on third down than we were a year ago, we shouldn't be so ridiculously bad on opening drives.  It's a poorly coached offense which is being elevated by the players.

The Titans are a Cinderella story.  It doesn't add up, you just gotta believe.
