Popular Post tgo
Great Article if you have an Athletic subscription. If you don't, you should get one. https://theathletic.com/1413785/2019/11/27/is-ryan-tannehill-playing-his-way-into-a-new-deal-with-the-titans-or-with-another-team/ Is Ryan Tannehill playing his way into a new deal with the Titans … or with another team? "Dye said Robinson wanted a two-year deal for Tannehill at the time, but the Tannehill camp opted for one instead, not wanting to take the chance of potentially sitting on the bench — and making backup money — behind Marcus Mariota for two seasons. “But at the time, I said, ‘Jon, you know me, and I think that you trust me. If (Tannehill) comes in here and does what I think he could do, you’ll have every chance to keep him,’” Dye said. “I said, ‘You’ve got to be competitive, and you’ve got to be fair and reasonable.’ But (Tannehill) is not a guy who’s going to come in here, light it up and then look for the next great thing. They love Nashville, they love the team and they love the organization. It’s been fun for them.”" "“I think any discussion with the Titans would come in the context of what else is out there,” Dye said. “As I said, Ryan loves it there. He’s winning. He’s being successful. I have no doubt he’d be thrilled to stay there. But he probably wouldn’t turn down three or four other teams that are offering (high)-dollar guarantees in order to stay and do the bridgework.”" The article also notes that Tannehill is on track to meet several of his passing incentives which total 3M (and the Dolphins have to pay it lol). Popular Post tgo
One thing that is becoming more clear to me, as @OILERMAN has mentioned in one of his threads, is that Tannehill can't be looked at as a bridge QB. If we're going to retain him, you retain him as the QBOTF, not as a bridge QB. And the contract negotiations need to be reflective of that. Tomachek
Even if Robinson decides to lock him up long-term, I still draft a Quarterback. I still cringe everytime he takes a big sack, hopefully the injuries are behind him. However, if his play continues the same way the next five games, than he deserves it long-term. I still want a young guy behind him ready to go if something would happen to him. PhinFan1968, and nine
BudsOilers
Exactly. Tannehill bet on himself in this situation but he's going to rightfully want a commitment from the Titans in terms of compensation and duration. The Titans have the leverage of the franchise tag but he has leverage too. oldschool

You're right that Tannehill at least needs to have a good backup with his injury history. But you don't waste an early draft pick on a QB imo when we're in win-now mode with a veteran QB. BudsOilers
They should draft a guy to develop but there's no need to force it if RT is under a long term deal.
ctm
If RT is signed as expected, the Titans won't be drafting a QB in the first 2 rounds. JRob will want those picks to either fill some vacancies created by free agency or add immediate impact players. tgo, OILERMAN, and Callidus
smokeater
RT is most definitely not a bridge qb at his current level of play and age-this is not debatable. Yes, we draft a qb somewhere mid-rounds because we need an up and coming backup. Woodside and MM are not it. Possibly sign an old vet as well for a year or two. BudsOilers
I actually thought Woodside showed some potential as a backup type but the reality is that the team is more likely to just carry 2 QB's so a draftee would have the edge. TennTitans23
RT should be the QB for the next 3-4 seasons. At that point he’ll be 34/35 and we can revisit the situation then. But that in no way means you just avoid drafting a QB. If Love is there at the bottom of the 2nd, I still take him. He’s super raw and not ready to play right now, but has big time potential. Who knows what he could develop into with 3 years of studying and coaching. JMoney420

The question is now whether he's the QBOF. I'll keep saying. As well as RT has played do you want to pay him top 10 money which is what it will take based on 6-10 games. The more prudent thing would be to apply the franchise tag, see if he duplicates his production next year, and then commit long term. Either work out a long term deal, or at least recoup some draft capital if he won't sign.
