The orange dummy just went there and campaigned    lol

It's not just Va. and Ky.  Read up on what happened in the suburbs of Philly.  The suburbs everywhere are trending blue.  It started in 2018 and last night was just more of the same.

At a pre-election rally on Monday, Trump said the following:   "Here's the story," Trump told thousand of supporters ahead of Tuesday's election. "If you win, they are going to make it like,

From 1971-2003, KY had a Dem governor. Then they had another one, Steve Beshear (Andy's father), from 2007 to 2015.

No...but this is a thread about KY.

I only mentioned VA because someone previously mentioned they were close to flipping.

Something else happened in KY.  There were about a half dozen counties in eastern KY that flipped from heavily Trump in 2016 to going slightly for Beshear last night.  Want to guess what these counties had in common?  Coal country.  This is an issue for McConnell as well.  He's been heavily lobbied by coal workers and done nothing for them.

A group of former Kentucky coal miners, who suffer from the deadly and incurable black lung disease, had mixed feelings about a brief meeting Tuesday with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

McConnell, his staff and the miners reportedly discussed funding for the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund, a federal program at risk at becoming underfunded that pays a monthly stipend and covers medical expenses for black lung victims and their widows.

About 12,000 former miners nationwide rely on the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund to cover costs and make ends meet, but a recent report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office showed that the fund is $4.3 billion in debt, and a tax on coal which funded the trust fund was cut in half in January (tax cut bill). Many advocates for the fund worry it may soon become insolvent.

Jimmy Moore, the head of the Letcher County Black Lung Association, said he found McConnell’s conduct “rude.” After the meeting, he said McConnell wouldn’t do anything to reinstate the tax which funded the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund.

“He might’ve stayed a minute,” Moore said, referring to McConnell’s quick exit from the meeting. “...It was a worthless trip, that’s the way I feel.”

Easy dumbass.   The libertarian candidate caused the Republican to lose the very close vote.   25K for the libertarian, while the Repub lost by 5K.

Now explain why the margins were so close in a state that Trump won by 30 points just 3 years ago? Face it, you're losing ground fast. We're going to mop the floor with you in 2020.

I don’t think Trump needs to worry about losing KY next year. He is still popular there.

McConnell might be another story.

You're likely right but if he loses ground in Kentucky he's likely to lose ground in states where the margins are much smaller. He needed everything to go just right last time and this time it looks like he won't be as fortunate.

I just think it was more about a shitty, unpopular governor than it was about Trump. I don’t think it is any impact on Trump at all other than maybe seen as embarrassing.

6 statewide races in Kentucky.  Does this look like a referendum on Trump?  Not to mention Bevin had only a 34% approval rating.

Governor:  Democrat +0.4

Attorney General: Republican +15.5

Agriculture Commissioner: Republican +19.6

Auditor: Republican + 14.6

Secretary of State: Republican +4.4

Treasurer: Republican +21.4

Well considering Trump won the state by 30%.... yeah, kinda.

Its particularly concerning for McConnell who's approval ratings are also in the 30s iirc.
