Derrick Henry - Week 9

Recommended Posts

Blocking actually was pretty good, they just got away from it due to game situations. Lewan actually looked pretty good for a guy who's now just a shell of his former self because he's been forced off the PEDs.

I know this film is about Henry but damn is Luke Keuchly good. He's fucking game-wrecker vs the run. His intelligence allows him to consistently make plays he has no business making.

Watch Keuchly on Henry's second carry of the game, at the :35 mark in the video.    Keuchly initially takes two steps to his left but diagnoses the cutback long before it happens, while Henry is still taking the handoff.....so Keuchly is a good 2-3 steps ahead of Henry.   When Henry makes his cutback, Keuchly is already standing in the lane waiting for him.

It's insane. He's a total eraser vs the run and completely mitigates any mistake other players make. He turned what likely wouldn't been a big Henry run into a negative play by recognizing Tannehill checking into a run and adjusting to it. They don't make the stat sheet but plays like that are the difference between winning and losing. Vrabel had it right that getting a hat on him immediately is the only way to have any success on the ground.
