Titans Going Forward

We are now going into the third week since we moved on from our #2 pick in the 2015 draft.  We had high hopes when Mariota came and we had some fun times.  We even enjoyed a period of relevance in the NFL again and it felt good.  But that period in Titans football is over, unless some miracle happens.

We are now 2-1 as this new era begins.  Not perfect, but not a reason to panic.  There is no NFL Fairy Godmother who's going to make the Titans SB champions just because we switch QB.  Quite the contrary, most teams who bench a #2 draft pick they have built their hopes around suffer seasons on disappointment.  Kinda like when we got rid of VY and Jake, it’s a rough road.

The main reason is because elite NFL QB don’t sit around in locker rooms waiting to get sent in.  We will have to find a new guy.  Luckily we have a decent backup who has the team 2-1 since he took over.  After the teams first loss since he took over, a period of lunacy has descended on TR.  Fire coach x, cut player y, bench player z all after one loss.

This week in the NFL, Green Bay got whipped by the team we beat in Tannehill's first start, the 49ers squeaked a W over Zona and the Ravens ran up 37 points smashing the #1 D in the league as they beat the undefeated Patriots.  It’s nothing new, it’s NFL football.  Each team has an assembly of the best football players in the world and on any given Sunday…

The new era started when Vrabel was hired and he is now 13-12.  This week against the Panthers wasn't just another loss.  It was the type of performance you typically see when players mentally check out, lose focus and can't even do the basics.  The narrative is forming against Vrabel.  He better not let this thing snowball downhill.

I don't even think there is enough of a coherent offensive scheme to characterize it as being of any particular era; we stated at the beginning of the year we want to run the o through our 6'3" power back but we go long periods of time without giving him carries; on the other hand we drafted 2 receivers in the top 2 rounds recently and signed another to a sizeable FA contract; yet there are games where they're seemingly not getting targeted hardly at all. Look at the Ravens and the Sea Hawks; they've both committed to running their offenses in the manner that takes advantage of their players' talents and are having a lot of success doing it.

I had lunch with El Guapo today and he seemed to be at a loss to figure how to fix this team.. my comments with him are worth sharing..

what events would make this season a success , in terms of foundation , not necessarily record??

1) Moving on from Mariota ..done

2) Establish a passing based or more balanced offense, move away from a power running offense

3) Establish a defensive philosophy and solid pass defense

4) Find a new franchise qb

IMO the transition in #2 is the highest priority at this point .. regardless of how many interceptions occur , getting a solid pass blocking line , a more versatile running back or 2, and getting receivers open are the things I want to see this season.. Also I’d like to know more about the TE coach, who had some decent seasons as an OC in Oakland

I think that is the important bit...
