Can't read, what's the jist of it? Basically what we've been saying about MM. The pure passing numbers don't tell the story about how bad he is?

Basically noting the difference between a simplified, scheme based passing attack as opposed to the traditional drop back and read the field from the pocket passing game.  This focused on Trubisky and the point was that the stat line/production looked great but watching the actual film essentially was far less impressive.

Or maybe it says how being a game manager isn't a bad thing so long as the team has a good running game and defense, like the 2000 Ravens? ?

Every team wants Mahomes, Brady, Brees. It's just not logistically possible. There aren't that many to draft every year, and teams STILL haven't figured out how to spot it before they actually start professionally. If they had, none of these guys make it past 1st pick, and nobody would ever pick the wrong guy at #1. Some might say, "oh well these teams obv figured it out bc they picked those players."

But Pats chose:

Adrian Klemm

J.R. Redmond

Greg Randall

Dave Stachelski

Jeff Marriott

Antwan Harris

...instead of Brady. They just got lucky, and it made Kraft billions.

Right, not everyone can find that multi-year ProBowl QB, so other teams still need to build a team to compete with the QB they do have. A game manager can be fine if you have a dominant roster, even if it isn't ideal. But if you know you have a game manager, they need to be paid like a game manager. Paying non-elite QBs at the franchise QB rate is silly (and unfortunately, too many QBs demand the going rate unless they get benched).

Additionally, you have to consider if another mediocre QB would win the same number of games. Being a game manager isn't worth much if a rookie (or old vet like McCown) would have an equal amount of success.

What is the going rate for a game-manager?  The QB price is steadily going up.  How much was Alex Smith paid?  Does Jared Goff fit into the "game-manager" role?

I don't watch the Raiders play, where does Carr fit on the QB spectrum?  I assume Flacco is more of a "big play" guy that is on the downward part of his career and not a game-manager.

Brady was actually a great example of building a team around a game manager.  Then Brady turned into the best game manager of all time.

Game manager gets a bad rap imo. People call a limited passer a "game manager".

For me I consider the really smart QBs who can run the 2:00 drill, understand game situations etc.... good game managers. It's a must for your QB to be a good game manager whether he's a good passer or not.

Mariota is absolutely one of the worst game managers. He's taken multiple sacks knocking them out of FG range, his 2:00 drill vs the Colts was embarrassing, no awareness of the time and down and distance, spiking the ball on 3rd down(lol). Aikman called him out late in the Jags game for no sense of urgency. See Ryan last week running the hurry up for how it's done. The 2nd half against the Falcons MM got the grounding call. almost another one that was reviewed for a fumble, then he did fumble.

@OILERMAN I wasn't thinking about Mariota per se.  Was more thinking next year Titans should sign a veteran and find value in the draft.

If you know someone is a franchise QB you grab them of course.  But if there's a smart dude who loves football, it may not be necessary to use a high first round pick.

Gardner Minshew has really paid off for the Jaguars, for example.

I'd guess right now Tannehill could be that option
