Cosell on Victory Over Browns

From the the tweet it sounds like it’s a general statement about how they’re simplifying things for Mariota (because he needs it to be simple) rather than being about specific schemed plays in certain situations (a la Mularkey!) just because those are the best plays.

That's the broader point.  He need the PA passes (just like the RPO) to define the reads/targets to make it easier for him.  It's not a one read offense but the PA schemes so that the passes are easier to complete (ie WR's that are open) as opposed to tight windows and anticipation throws which he struggles in.

He was gushing over Amani Hooker's play on the Mayfield safety.

On the Mike Vrabel Show (lol), coach said the same thing:  Hooker's play caused Baker to double clutch and pull the ball down, then Cam crushed him.  Backend + Defensive Front doing work together for the safety.

Both Big and Righteous are somewhat right. Its a fact more teams cut the field in half and even have one read plays than most realize. The use of one read plays doesn't automatically mean it's because the QB sucks at running an NFL offense. Of course that being said, the opposite can also be true. Mariota suffers badly when dropping back to pass in a conventional manner. Case and point, the horrible miss to Davis over the middle.

No ones commented on it but that one read thing... 😬

Doesn’t seem sustainable.

Maybe that's because anything anyone,  including Cosell, might say that could be construed as a negative attributable to Mariota gets turned into a political football around here lately. But wouldn't it be nice not to have every thread turn into a shit-flinging contest?

That's it. @japan, @Righteous, @ap24786 disagree with Cossell's take if you want but that's what he's saying overall.

Yeah, but I think it was one of the announcers during the Hou NO game who said first games across the board are not the best execution due to many starters not playing much during preseason.  Mariota got better as he got his rhythm.  I am going to chose to be optimistic all year.

Of course that’s what Cosell meant because it was obvious when watching the game.

The typical reTaRds didn’t even listen to the segment.

The coaches know what Mariota can handle and what he can’t.

NOD was on Kuharsky's podcast today and he said he thought they could win games with MM(defense running game etc....) but talked about some of the same limitations. He said he wouldn't pay him at this point and unless he makes a big jump would bring in a veteran next year.

He said he'd have MM run more too.

NOD said all QBs would love to have 5 years to prove themselves(sarcastically) and also said changing OCs isn't really an excuse. He said it's all basically the same stuff and once you know you know it.

Kuharsky didn't sound very high on what he did Sunday and talked about the 1 read stuff.
