Republicans take both North Carolina seats

Recommended Posts

Despite being outspent by Democrats, both Republicans won the open House seats in North Carolina.    What does it mean?   Straightforward conservatism, the stellar economy, and not being crazy, all count for something.

This special election in a hard red district was due to federal voter fraud. The only federal case in recent history -- republican.

The repubs outnumber dems in that district, it was always supposed to be repub district.  It has not had dem victory since 1960's. The fact that it was so close and required the repubs to bring in the president of the US and the Veep's staff to close the deal on a district that he won by 12pts, speaks volumes

,... Tonight’s results in the special election in North Carolina’s 9th district will tell us a lot about how naturally enthusiastic the Democratic electorate is, because in order to prevail there, Democrats will need a turnout surge of Democrats and sympathetic Independents large enough to overcome the significant partisan advantage Republicans hold in that R+8 district. The Democratic candidate’s strategy there has been the traditional one run by Democrats running in territory that Republicans have a numbers advantage in: focus in on key “bread and butter issues” while minimizing the candidate’s membership in the minority party (the Democrats). In McCready’s case, there is also heavy focus on his military service as a means of courting Independents and “soft Republicans.” If McCready pulls out a win it will be because enough Democrats and Independents show up to cast ballots to overwhelm the votes of Republicans in what will be a low turnout election- not because of increased so-called “cross-over voting,” which in the polarized era, averages at about 10% of each party’s electorate.

All the GOP needs to do to prevail in NC 9 is turn out enough Republican voters, Independents be damn, and they hold the seat; which is why their closing play is to bring the president himself into the district to close out the campaign and remind Republican voters there is an election going on and that the result of it is related to supporting Donald Trump,...

… They called this a hair's-breadth race, narrow, neck-and-neck, the Democrats' to lose and all that.  In the 9th District, the GOP really was at a disadvantage due to a bad previous candidate.  And North Carolina is considered a swing or purple state, so anything really could have happened.  They just chose to call it for the Democrats.  Well, now they've got egg all over their faces — and that's a portent as to how much they ought to be listened to in 2020.

Both Axios and the Washington Post claimed that the margin was razor-thin.  It wasn't.  Murphy won by a double-digit blowout, and Bishop in the tainted 9th District won by two points.  This wasn't a Bush-Gore redux of five or ten votes to fight over; this victory was solid.  The WaPo now claims that Democrats are going into the next race from a "position of strength" after blowing a ton of money on the loss, but that signals how weak they are, not how strong.  These guys are just trying to rally themselves from the knockout they just got....

In NC 03, Trump beat Clinton by 11% in 2016.  In the same district, Republican Bishop just won by 2%.  If this qualifies as good news for republicans, carry on.....

Of course it is good news for republicans because they won.

it took the president of the US and the VEEP staff to prevail in a district that hasn't gone dem since the '60s,.... "low turnout special election?... we better call in the president" LOL

All because the last election the repubs blatantly cheated

victory lap!!!

The real news is that they nearly lost 2 seats that haven't gone Dem since Kennedy was President.

It’s a red state and even more red districts. Not really a shocker...

It's not really a shocker you libtards attempting to find a silver lining in your defeat.   The Democrats thought they could win so they spent all that money.  Liberal pundits predicted they would win.   Murphy destroyed his opponent, while the other one (Bishop) was closer.   Of course in the case of Bishop the previous Republican got booted for cheating.   The GOP was at a disadvantage due to the bad previous candidate.

And you are wrong, North Carolina is considered a purple state now.

Disingenuous as always.  NC is a purple state,... made up of red and blue districts,....

Look at all the resources spent,... prez and VEEP must not count,...

Barely won,... LOL,.... in an election that was only held because of unprecedented republican voter fraud!!!

Can't make this stuff up

What state isn't make up of red and blue districts.

According to the left here, Trump sucks, so him showing up would do no good.

That's right, there was a Republican that got caught in voter fraud.   That clearly was not helpful for the new Republican challenger.  Or are you denying that?

You are not paying attention to the current climate (pardon the pun).  It doesn't matter that a repub was caught in voter fraud anymore then it matters that Trump is a lying pos.  All that matters right now is tribal party participation.  there were way more repubs in that district then dems.  Dems thought they had a chance but turnout beats everything.  End of story.

Trump sucks because he's an embarrassing, overmatched pos.  But he's converted you aggrieved turds into supporting him.  Shit tends to clump.  The fact you're front running for the most contemptible NYC shyster pos to stain the oval office is proof of why he sucks.  No worries, though.  It'll all be over in 15 months.  What's hilarious is that this 'awesome' victory is more indicative of his ouster than his staying power.

Enjoy it while you can.  The forecast doesn't bode well, champ
