Popular Post nine
I missed this little tidbit watching the game in real time: check out the ridiculous stiff-arm AJ Brown throws on the poor Browns DB who's chasing him on his big 50-yard catch early in the 3rd quarter. This guy is right behind him reaching to grab him; moving at full speed and barely even giving the guy a glance, AJB throws a hand up in the guy's face and stiff-arms him to the ground.....without even breaking stride! "Bitch, get that shit outta here...." Freaking insane. It's also worth noting what a great route AJB runs here. The DB has decent coverage for the first 10 yards....but AJ makes a nice cut to create separation, flattens out and catches the ball exactly 12 yards downfield, and he's off to the races, stiff-arm and all. I'm also loving the great open field cut to blow past another DB completely untouched. Poster-ized that poor dude. AJB is definitely looking like the real deal. GLinks
We saw in his highlight reels insanely savvy play in the open field on the collegiate level. Let’s hope it translates consistently, but I believe it’s just his game style to be that dynamic whenever he has the chance, and his size helps. The stiff arm was pointed out in another thread, but it was so clean and sick, you’re right. Hopefully the analysts show it at a proper angle later in the week. Put your FF claims in now if you need a depth WR on your roster. Edited September 10, 2019 by GLinks jmalon
Alcibiades
Davis is still our number one, but Brown looked good. He looked....angry, too. I don't know how else to say it. I think he didn't like being unable to play much in camp and preseason. He looked to set the tone in his first game, and he really couldn't have had a better debut. Well, maybe a TD? But damn, he flipped the field twice. GLinks
Supdawg
The OTP yesterday was talking about how Brown admitted (multiple times) to hating DB's. That might explain the angry running lol. Definitely might have been the smoothest stiff arm I've seen. And the fact it was almost behind him makes it even more impressive. Alcibiades
He hates DBs? That's odd. But whatever works for him, I guess! Number9

Yeah. Amie wells asked him a question in a pre draft visit and he told her that he hated DB’s and when she laughed he said he wasn’t joking. He hates them and wished they weren’t even on the field. He’s going to be a great WR for us for sure. The Boldin comparisons are very accurate except brown is faster. Popular Post Mythos27
I like the stiff arm to me but personally that little move he put on Randall near the end of the run was just incredible. Randall is a very good tackler and Brown had him on roller skates. We've seen him pull that move before in his college highlights so it's no fluke. Another underrated aspect of this play was Brown's release off the LOS. He knew exactly what move he was going to use and executed it as smoothly as you can imagine. The DB was toast off the line and a good ball from Mariota ensured he never recovered. This ability combined with his natural physicality is going to make him a very tough receiver to jam up and this is an area where Corey Davis has had to do a lot of improvement and is still a bit of a work in progress. Receivers with good releases scare the shit out of corners in press man because the second you can't get your hands on them you're in trouble. This kid is ready. BudsOilers
He was impressive. On the 50 yard pass, Mariota also deserves credit. It was a perfect throw with dead on ball placement that enabled Brown to get the 38 yards of YAC. That's what the play is designed to do and why ball placement IS so important. Popular Post TeamRamrod
The concern over his speed is so silly. He ran a 4.49 and Anquan Boldin ran a 4.71 with a similar skill set and body type. Lars, ChemEngr79, NashvilleNinja, and 3 others 5

I'm sure be had Brown in mind. Sharpe may become a spectator. No wonder we dumped Taylor. The WR’s release from the LOS is huge and probably had a lot to do with Taylor’s departure. The QB has to be able to depend on his WR to be where he’s supposed to be when he’s supposed to be there...which can’t happen if the guy can’t get off the LOS. Last year’s failed 2-point conversion against the Chargers was a perfect example. Vrabel and Mariota caught a ton of flak when the play failed....but the coaches’ film shows very clearly that Taylor was the biggest culprit. The play called for a quick slant pass...and when the ball is snapped, Taylor has a decent cushion with a clear lane across the middle. But his release is horrible and he makes a lazy, indecisive cut that allows the DB to jump the route and take the inside leverage, effectively blocking Taylor out of the play entirely. I doubt we’ll have to worry about that sort of hesitation from AJB. Lars, NashvilleNinja, titanruss, and 4 others 6
