begooode
Mariota needs to play smart dammit and protect himself!! ,... by letting some fucking scrub lineman bust up his lower legs on a low hit on a fairly low percentage downfield pass, that was completed anyway!! You know, step into that shit, like Brady doesn't!! ALPHAZ BIG ARMZ WOOF!! EagleEye, and TitanDuckFan

They played well for being down two starters. The game plan was a huge part of that as well; all the play action, moving the pokcet, bootleg, etc.... Trust, they didn't deserve it to start with, they were down two starters against a monstrous front. As the game wore on, they earned some trust and it showed. This isn't near as hard as you're trying to make it. I have zero doubt this was a point of emphasis from the coaches to Marcus during the game planning stage. Kind of makes you wonder why that's been lacking from most of the game plans, the way last year's line performed. Mat "whiz kid" LaFleur never seemed to figure it out. GLinks
The most important thing about Mariota’s throw was simply that is was caught by Brown, the intended receiver. He spared himself a possible injury and connected for a big play. Despite it it being a back foot throw, the high arc suggests he’s got plenty of arm strength. Mechanics are still obviously sometimes questionable.

I trust Nine to show us the all-22. The funy thing about your post is the assertion the OL didn't play well yesterday. rewatching the game proves otherwise. Saffold's guy beats him so there's no place left to step up, Smith correctly tries to keep his guy on his outside shoulder to the right and does so somewhat but gets pushed straight back into Mariota in doing so, there was no place to step up; rewatched it a few times myself just now. You guys have been commiserating on here for months about how you don't think he's the guy, and there is a fair amount of legitimacy to it and that opinon; but none of you are honest enough to admit that it does lead to a degree of confirmation bias; when you watch him you're looking to back up strong opinions that have been formed and then reinforced on here. Actually I defended Mariota until recently so your comment doesnt carry any weight. The play in question isnt the be and end all. I definitely thought he had way more time when watching it live. On the rewatch you can see the pressure that impacted the play without question. The problem is the TV angle could be misleading either way. If I'm wrong I'm wrong; I dont need to defend a position just because I cant admit being wrong. As I said earlier, there are far better examples to show Mariota struggled yesterday. I completely disagree that he had room to step into the throw. Here's a shot as the ball leaves his hand, an instant before he's chopped down at the knees. Let me ask you, do you think Mahomes, Philip Rivers or any QB with a live arm is able to make the throw with velocity anyway? Like @oldschool said. The margin for error is low. The fact he needs to be able to properly step in to have some pop on his throws shows he's lacking anything other than average-at-best abilities. Starters excel OUTSIDE the perfectly designed parameters of QB play. Because not everything will go according to plan. If I'm grouping you in with others incorrectly, I apologize; but the amount of blowback on that particular play, to me, is the epitome of what's gone wrong on this board as it turns into an endless spiral of negativity about one player on the team, albeit the most important one, with never ending posts and threads featuring a rather small group of posters restating their opinions about said player over and over and over. pat
Mariota was having a dreary game until Henry blew it open. Congrats to everyone including Mariota for making it happen. But don't lie, not one of y'all was looking forward to a fast paced game until Henry started to eat. bosss50

As I said earlier, there are far better examples to show Mariota struggled yesterday. He struggled at times, but I think that’s pretty relative to all QBs in week one. The only truly egregious miss to me was the 1-1 to Brown in the end zone where he airmailed it. The other few seemed more like some timing concepts that hopefully sync up later in the year. The pass to Sharp is a good example. He made that exact pass against much tighter coverage to Davis against the Patriots. Overall I thought he showed pretty good game awareness, other than the sack you mentioned, and it led to an efficient if unspectacular performance. Honestly, if he can consistently play that well while having some big games we can be in business. If he can consistently be an average QB while maintaining the upside he showed against the Eagles/Pats/Dal then we are a tough out. bosss50, and ChemEngr79

You guys are too focused on, "time for proper footwork" and not enough on can Mariota do anything right when things don't go according to plan. Like most starters in the league. Aaron Rodgers has the strength to throw bullets off his backfoot. Because he's a starter ... if you need a perfect pocket to plant and throw with pop every time you might as well be a backup. Franchise QBs are supposed to wow you. begooode

Popular Post Downtown
Looking back at the game and specifically the offense, we should really be talking about the 43 yards of total offense generated when Lewis is in the game (that includes the 15+ scamper Mariota had on a broken play) versus the 296 yards total offense generated when Henry was in the game. We lived off of play action. Both AJ Brown pass plays were play-action to Henry. Both Walker TDs were play-action to Henry. Screen TD to Henry, etc. Putting Lewis in the game grinded our offense to a halt with no respect given to the play-action pass. The 3rd and 11? It hit Davis in the hands. It wasn’t a great pass, but it wasn’t a bad pass. I think Davis May have heard footsteps and short armed it, but I’d have to rewatch. That isn’t an easy throw. EagleEye, Highpockets84, and bosss50
