really getting a lot of mileage out of that "ball placement" stat.

It was obvious before that stat was revealed

Right, accuracy doesn't matter.  We just went 3 and out twice after a receiver was unable to haul in awkward, inaccurate throws, and it probably would have taken an eternity to move down the field if not for that PI call because our receivers had to fall on their ass to catch Mariota's short throws and couldn't get YAC.  Should be fine against Patrick Mahomes and all of the other QBs that we'll be seeing.

I went back to 2016 and skimmed a few games that are on youtube (including the Green Bay game) and you can tell he's way more accurate than he is today.  Even back then he always started off throwing high, as McNair did, but was able to settle down and was throwing a lot of nicely placed passes mainly to Walker for maximum RAC.  Something happened to him after the broken leg.

He was late on the first throw to Davis that stopped the 1st drive.  Second drive we didn't pick up a 3rd and 1 where we ran the ball.  Not exactly MM's fault.

beyond that he was off on the throw to Lewis on the TD drive.

He moved in the pocket well...throw to Brown was a toss up but he reset his feet after pressure and looked good...didn't take off running.

Scored a TD in the red-zone easily and quickly.

Mariota threw for about 60 yards in the last drive that started on the 13 yard line....penalty was about 25 yards...drive took about 4 minutes.  Without that PI it would have been an eternity.  Sounds about right.

The play to Walker was executed perfectly.  We need to see that much more often.

Cosell did say something that should be a big concern regarding 8 that most of the homers will dismiss.

This is one of the reasons he's so inconsistent both with timing and accuracy.  You cannot effectively run a precision passing game when you have this.

It was Oldsxhool. It was Danny Shelton. And the pass to Delanie couldn’t be led because there was blatantly a LBer, #51, who would’ve  easily at best knocked it down.

I can care less that a lot of people want Tannehill to start. I personally always thought he did a lot with not much around him in Miami. But this  wasn’t  the game to rip MM, he played fine. I can see where this is going though & it’s going to get old. quickly. Every pass, or run, or sack is going to be microanalyzed to the nth degree to the point where everything is downgraded. An awesome throw is meh, that’s what a pro QB should do. An average 12 yard pass will be  bad because it wasn’t on the right shoulder or something, and a bad pass is the single all encompassing proof that he’s not a starting QB.

If he would’ve had this game in 2017 preseason it would’ve been all positive here, like it should be. The negative reaction to this game is laughable.

I think the criticisms about him not getting YAC because of his ball placement largely hold true. There’s a reason besides our subpar WR squad that we so rarely see short routes against man and blitzes turn into huge gains.

You found someone who shares the same opinion as you? How sweet.

Didnt Cosell also imply Mariota is a joke of a QB like 2 weeks ago?

Traveling today, but from the Twitter post seems like Cosell was fairly positive of MMs performance.

Also mentioned the point about making corrections and progress being the thing you want to see during TC, which is the point I was making earlier when so much focus was on each play.  Hope the progress continues this Sunday.

No. I'm guessing JOKE is your terminology.

No he said he was a "Jake" of a QB.

This coming from the guy who is only a Titans fan because of that jake of a QB?

You gonna follow him to the CFL too?
