The Jon Robinson Era Looking Good Heading Into Year Four

Recommended Posts

At this point in the Summer of 2019 GM Jon Robinson is heading into his fourth season with Tennessee. As of right now there are only 9 players still here that were around when Robinson first joined the franchise as GM in early 2016 they are QB Marcus Mariota,LT Taylor Lewan,TE Delanie Walker,DE Jurrell Casey,DE DaQuan Jones,ILB Wesley Woodyard,LS Beau Brinkley,P Brett Kern and K Ryan Succoup.

2016 FREE AGENCY & DRAFT

OC Ben Jones

OG Josh Kline

OT Dennis Kelly

RB DeMarco Murray

WR Rishard Matthews

QB Matt Cassel

OT Jack Conklin

RB Derrick Henry

DT Austin Johnson

 S Kevin Byard

WR Tajae Sharpe

CB LeShaun Sims

Titans finish 9-7 in Jon Robinson's first year as GM. One of the best things he did to help the team get back in the winning column is improve the mediocre run game replacing Bishop Sankey/Antonio Andrews with Demarco Murray/Derrick Henry. Also the offensive line was upgraded as well with Andy Gallick/Byron Bell/Chance Warmack being shipped out in favor of Ben Jones/Josh Kline/Jack Conklin. There were many quality wins such as a 47-25 thrashing of the Packers,a 13-10 win over defending SB champs Broncos,A last second FG to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead,A last second TD to beat the Lions at Detroit. They lost 5 games by eight points or less.

2017 FREE AGENCY & DRAFT

WR Eric Decker

TE Luke Stocker

DT Sylvester Williams

CB Logan Ryan

S John Cyprien

LB Darren Bates

DB Brynden Trawick

WR Corey Davis

CB Adoree' Jackson

WR Taywan Taylor

TE Jonnu Smith

LB Jayon Brown

OL Corey Levin

CB Tye Smith

Titans finish 9-7 in Jon Robinson's second year as GM. The special teams were improved with Darren Bates and Brynden Trawick. Also the secondary was strengthened by CB's Logan Ryan and Adoree Jackson. The only peculiar thing is even with drafting WR Corey Davis,Taywan Taylor and TE Jonnu Smith as well as bringing in Eric Decker it seemed the wideout group did not improve. The team had impressive wins against Seattle,Baltimore as well as sweeping division rivals Jax and Indy. They lost 4 games by six points or less. They did manage an impressive playoff comeback win at Kansas City getting their first playoff win since 2003.

2018 FREE AGENCY & DRAFT

S Kenny Vaccaro

QB Blaine Gabbert

OT Kevin Pamphile

DT Bennie Logan

LB Kamalei Correa

LB Will Compton

RB Dion Lewis

CB Malcolm Butler

ILB Rashaan Evans

OLB Harold Landry

S Dane Cruikshank

DE Sharif Finch

TE Anthony Firkser

TE MyCole Pruitt

Titans finish 9-7 in Jon Robinson's third year as GM as the Titans achieve three winning seasons in a row one of only six teams in the NFL had three or more winning seasons in a row. The safety spot looked real good with Kevin Byard and Kenny Vacarro shutting down opponents. LB Jayon Brown had a really good year and the team also spent high picks on another LB Rashaan Evans as well as Harold Landry. The team had big wins against defending Super Bowl champion Philly, the eventual Super Bowl champion New England as well as an impressive road win at Dallas. Backup QB Gabbert won a couple games for Tennessee but not when the playoffs were on the line in a win and your in game vs Indy. Marcus Mariota was hurt/out in the most crucial game of the season.

2019 FREE AGENCY & DRAFT

QB Ryan Tannehill

WR Adam Humphries

G Rodger Saffold

DE/DT Brent Urban

DE/OLB Cameron Wake
DT Jeffery Simmons

WR A.J. Brown

OG Nate Davis

S Amani Hooker

LB D'Andre Walker

LB David Long

GM Robinson is heading into year four it will be interesting if he can pull off his fourth straight winning season since becoming GM back in 2016. Every year of Robinson's tenure heading into the last part of the season the Titans have been in the playoff hunt. The Titans should finally have the passing attack improved with AJ Brown joining Corey Davis as the teams first and second round picks at WR along with talented slot receiver Adam Humphries.

Also this year if Mariota has another setback the Titans arent taking any chances so they signed Ryan Tannehill so in the event Mariota does get injured the team wont suffer any drop off of talent like they did vs Indy with Gabbert playing a win and in game with playoffs on the line. They upgraded the O line with Rodger Saffold coming in as well as Nate Davis being drafted. More LB were drafted with D'Andre Walker and David Long joining the already talented LB group. Cam Wake was signed to help boost the pass rush.

Last but not least cant wait to see when Jeffery Simmons finally joins Jurrell Casey on the defensive line. The team seems to have improved in many areas and the roster seems to be getting stronger. The biggest question mark though is the QB position. That question should be answered this coming season. The Colts,Falcons,Chargers,Chiefs,Saints are some of the high powered offenses they'll face so they'll need to improve offensively to hang with some of the teams.

Great OP!  I think we have almost become spoiled and just expect really good teams from JRob.  From a 5-27 team to a solid nine win team is amazing.  The depth, JRob works the roster from top to bottom.  He inherited a #2 draft pick QB, but look at the team he has built around him.  Jake was bad, but he didn't have this kind of talent around him.

And to think, some of the big shots wouldn't even interview because they had to keep Mularkey in the best interest of the #2 draft pick QB.  Seems they must have been afraid of the job.

Looks non progressive. Better start winning some more games.

How is adding a top 20 edge rusher, a top 5 guard, and the best available lot receiver in FA not progression. We also nabbed a top 5 talent at 19 and a consensus first round WR in the second. We’ve had 3 straight winning seasons despite erratic and inconsistent QB play.

The Diaper Dandy JRob.

1)He came into the draft knowing he was not going to pick up the option on Conklin,  he needed a Defensive or offensive  lineman, he managed to sit still until his pick,  seeing  that there was a massive run on defensive players and that the draft was handing him the best value at offensive linemen,  he stood up and pissed in his pants. Choosing an injured defensive lineman. To shore up support for his reckless, bone headed decision,  Amy held a press conference  to defend his pick.

2)In the 2nd rd,  he needed an offensive lineman desperately but there was a run on them,  the draft handed him value at WR, he needed speed but he got a slot guy, that was a possesion receiver.

So after 2 rounds, he did not have a defensive or offensive lineman, that could help this year.

What a Complete  Jackass.

Progression is in wins and losses. Not simply adding FAs. Especially if the FAs (and coaches) he's adding isn't helping with the main objective.

Everyone has been gloating over his offseasons for three straight years.

You tell me, where is the progression? Madden 20 rankings?

Top 5 talent at 19. Lmao

Yet cant play. But look at you gloating about him getting someone who cant play. Because of what, hype?

Werent you hyped about Corey Davis? He had that #1 franchise WR talent, right?

Where it been?

Now you got ppl saying Brown can/will be the best on the team. 🤣

Keep overvaluing potential.

Greg Cosell said the same thing.  We should tell him that he's wrong because JakePA (Pouty Ass?) said so.  And there are like 2 people who say Brown will be better, who I'm going to assume overreact about most things.

Oh, well if Cossell said it....book it?

Pouty ass? Lol you seem to be the only one pouting. And you're pouting due to my opinion that this team has been in a stalemate since JR showed up? Is it impossible for you to ignore an opinion you dobt like? No? Rather attack someone because of it? Cool.

My bad because I am being objective about what JR has accomplished. Or better yet, what the team has while under his direction.

This is the same forum that always jokes about the Jags winning the offseason yet not turning it into anything.

Yet now we have ppl gloating about offseasons that havent been turned into anything special. The Jags have made it further than us. Not sure if anyone realizes that. They have gotten closer. While ppl make fun of their offseasons.

The team that got to and won a playoff game was mostly guys from a GM most around here talk shit on. With coaches, most around here talk shit on and JR didnt want.

But now ppl are bragging. And about what exactly? Signing above average FAs and drafting guys who have potential. Come on.

I want to see consecutive double digit win seasons with playoff appearances. That is progression from where we've been. I want to see the first rounders he picks be difference makes. Not just another guy playing a part.

If yall are content and proud about consistent mediocrity, have at it. I won't talk shit on yall because you think that's progression. If you dont like my opinion, learn to move past it.

We have won 27 games in the three seasons JRob has been in charge. We won 12 in the three seasons prior. If you're talking about wins, it looks quite progressive to me.

Jeff Fisher was always winning 8 and 9 games. Wasnt enough then. Why is it enough now?

Wasnt enough for Mularkey and Terry Robiskie. Why's it good now?

It's also hard to say its JR. I mean the roster the year before he took over compared to the year he did was not much worse. Maybe a little more credit should be given to Mularkey actually doing his job which was coaching and growing players.

Yet Mularkey and Robiskie didn't get that same respect and optimistic view while being a large part of that turn around. Makes you think. Maybe Im wrong. JR the only reason we jumped back up to being a middle of the pack team.

What will the view be if we go 8-8 this year and no playoffs? Still progressing? Like I said, this isnt just a put up or shut up year for Mariota.

This team have JRs fingerprints on it more than any other year. Even got himself a quality backup QB. Let's see what happens.
