AussieTitanFan08
Interesting reports around today that the Texans aren't even going to make Clowney an offer before the deadline to sign franchise tagged players to extensions expires next week. Also interesting is it seems that Bill O'Brien won the power struggle with former GM Brian Gaine partly because Gaine wanted to extend Clowney and O'Brien didn't want to. Have to think its going to be a little awkward between Clowney/Texans when the time comes for him to sign the franchise tag and return to the teams facility, wouldn't be at all shocked if he ends up being traded before the start of the regular season. This situation feels very similar to the one between Khalil Mack and the Raiders last year, obviously Clowney won't attract the same trade compensation if things play out that way. TitanDuckFan
It'd be a damned shame if Clowney decided at some point he'd rather play for Vrabel. /snark ChesterCopperpot1, and Justafan

Would have to think the only scenario he ends up at the Titans would be as a FA, and for that to happen we would probably need to have a rookie at QB so there would be enough cap room to bring him in. nine
Clowney’s a pretty damn good player and a physical freak...but between injuries and his tendency for disappearing in games, he’s never come anywhere close to justifying his draft slot. I haven’t followed his career closely ...but from a casual observer POV, he’s a borderline impact player at best. I certainly wouldn’t mind having the guy....but I wouldn’t give up a lot od draft capital or throw ridiculous money at him. OILERMAN
Pretty easy case for Clowney to miss most of camp, come in and play out the season and hit the open market in 2020, unless the Texans give him a big raise with another franchise tag he'll get paid big time. Even if the Texans tag him again he will have made 35+ mill over two years, pretty good. Starkiller

Still think there is a chance he is traded before the regular season kicks off, there were reports they were shopping him prior to the draft hoping to get a Khalil Mack type haul in return. Have been saying it for a while I think the Texans take a step back this year, don't think they make the playoffs.

They got extrememely lucky in a ton of games just like the Jags the year before. 8 of their wins were 1 score wins. It’s hard to get the ball to bounce your way like that 2 years in a row. tgo
If he makes it to FA, would kind of expect Vrabel to target him. Wake’s deal is really a one year deal structurally. He’s the kind of player that is missing from the defense, someone who could play on the line, inside on the DL on some plays, and at OLB and can stop the run. And Vrabel loves the guy. He should sign and show up after the last exhibition game. Edited July 10, 2019 by Starkiller

Either way it comes down to which direction we go with the QB situation. Paying Clowney while our rookie QB is on his rookie deal (assuming we go that route) might work out even if he is a little over valued. If we do end up throwing a significant contract at a QB it might make a difference. Probably so.
AussieTitanFan08
Today is the deadline for franchise tagged players to be able to sign a long term deal, all reports seem to indicate Clowney and the Texans aren't even discussing a long term deal at this point in time. Clowney's next move will be interesting to watch, will he hold out or even possibly try and force a trade. OzTitan
Texans would be fools to extend him, his production is not going to be too hard to replace.
