Dude, we've been over this a million times. Mariota wouldn't have been able to pass a physical and back in March the option became guaranteed.

There wasn't a scenario where the team saved 20.9 mill.

That’s pure speculation. Nothing by any person or source has said anything along those lines. The closest you have is the fact he said he wasn’t 100 %.

I'd guarantee they already know what they are going to do.

If they don't think a rookie is better than what MM can give them than obviously you don't draft the rookie, he's not good. That doesn't mean they keep MM

Hard to tell what they are thinking but we do know we had a chance to get one of the top QBs in the last draft and didn't go for it.  Does that mean they have high hopes for MM or high hopes for the 2020 draft?  Or both.  I figure JRob would prefer Mariota or Tannyhill on a reduced deal over bringing a rookie he doesn't feel real good about.  Which means JRob could do whatever it takes to move up and get the guy he wants.  The guy he feels the most confident in.  He traded up for a RT he will trade up as far as necessary for a QB.

We won't be picking high enough to get an actual QBOTF. Most likely we take a QB in the middle of the 1st and he turns out to be a bigger tease than Mariota.

So sad that with a team this talented we can have a serious discussion about taking a QB in the first round.  But, it is what it is.

So he went from a broken hand unable to even grip a football all season with 14 other injuries to now not being hurt?

Logically, the Titans were never going to cut Mariota for a variety of reasons:

1.  They already budgeted the $ 20.9 M for 2019.

2.  MM with his flaws is at least a known commodity they have invested time and money in.

3.  It's theoretically possible that he makes a jump up in production in the 5th year.

4.  The concept of swapping MM for Tannehill is essentially a wash on it's own given RT's history.  By adding RT to MM, they at least on paper have a starting caliber solution with two guys.

5.  If cut before it became fully guaranteed on 3/13, there's little doubt MM's agent would not file a grievance about it as everyone acknowledges that an injury that required prolonged rest/recovery ended his season before week 17.

6.  That doesn't even broach the message that would send to the locker room like cutting Randall Godfrey did in 2003.  Bad optics.

All of that said, no talks of an extension heading into the last year of a contract (he and Winston are the first QB's ever to play on a 5th year option), trading for a starting caliber backup to "push him", and the HC get questioned constantly about the starter situation does not constitute reaffirmation that the Titans have faith he's the long term franchise QB.

Another question is would Mariota be willing to take a short term deal like Bortles took that is well below market value? If he flops again I'd just let him go but if they don't like the prospects or are too far down in the draft it could be another option.

seems to me they would have tried to do that already.   tough to see a scenario where that will be a good idea after this year.  He's either gonna be good enough to earn some $$ or it's gonna be over.  Very small middle ground between those two options.

Can we at least wait until Mariota is benched and or injured before we begin the QB in the 2020 draft talk?

Don't forget preseason and the 53 man cut list. Someone will want a QB from that group.

Mariota was about 7,000xs the prospect coming out.

LOL. I know. The odds are about 98% this guy isn’t even close to Mariota.

They don't have the proper GM  to draft a quailty qb in the first rd.

And you know this how?

You stand alone in your contempt for JRob.  Not many are ridiculous to think the guy has done that bad of a job considering the hand he was dealt.

Bad hand?...Yes in some regards but not totally.

He was talent poor in the nuts and bolts aspect but very rich in key areas.

He had all pro talent at left tackle,  at least a stop gap young QB,   an all pro tightend and a high performance  MLB,  ultra rich in cap space and extra capital in the draft pick area.

Fisher gave him a godsend of draft capital along with the extra scraps.

JRob simply had to be a good talent scout and a wise spender in free agency.

He was far from bankrupt in draft capital and FA money,  his key positions were covered.

He was absolutely horrible in the draft and he lacked vision.

Amy even had him a stop gap coach  to get us at even board and in the playoffs.

He has been a horrible GM

His drafting and free agency skill sucks ass.

People have forgotten how truly difficult it is to find a legit franchise QB. They hyper-focus on Mahommes,Mayfield, etc and conveniently forget about the Tim Tebows, Manzeils, Brady Quinns, etc. That's not to say that you shouldn't try to draft one as it's really the only way to acquire one it just feels like people are mistaken in thinking it will be easy to replace Mariota. People who think "it can't get any worse" are often in for a rude awakening.

I haven’t seen anyone say any of that.

The issue is his contract is up after this season and his play has not warranted an extension.

Rookie contracts are very cheap and you have them for 4 years minimum
