I’d like to hear a detailed breakdown of PSGIII

You have to search some of my old posts.  I am spending every waking moment waiting for the rematch next month.

Since this was known when he was drafted, shouldn't the title be, "Why did Titans use 2nd pick on backup QB talent?"

I was watching the Buffalo game last night.  Anyway, Henry was open moving away from coverage and Mariota threw the ball so far behind Henry the converging defender couldn't catch it.  A few plays later, Mariota had a wide open target near the sideline still in the backfield.  Mariota's pass hit the turf 2-3 yards in front of him.

Buffalo was one of, if not the worse team we played last year.  We lost.

Oregon Ducks NFL draft scouting reports: Why Marcus Mariota is a gamble

Weaknesses

Oregon's system often leaves targets wide open, simplifying Mariota's reads and making it easy for him to find his target. His junior numbers (68.3 completion percentage, 42 touchdowns, 4 INTs) overstate his accuracy, as he is inconsistent hitting his receivers when they are "NFL open." Multiple times during the past two seasons, he's missed a running back in the flat or wide receiver on a comeback route when they are wide open for a touchdown.

On routes in which he must throw to a particular spot, he often misses the ideal mark, putting the ball in a place where both the defender and receiver have a chance at it.

It is difficult to find video of Mariota standing tall under duress, stepping up in the pocket and firing a bullet 20 yards downfield. He is not a comfortable pocket passer and has struggled with ball security in traffic. That lack of comfort/mechanical polish is the biggest knock on the Oregon junior.

Mariota struggles to recognize blitzes pre-snap and will need to improve his ability to read and adjust to them. At times, he is too quick to give up on a passing play because of mild-to-moderate pressure and looks to run.

Where I'd take him

Mariota simply has too many concerns to justify being a top-two selection, most notably his accuracy.

I know El Guapo wants a qb that can lead the receiver and get big YAC.. alas it may not be as it appears Cosell is saying that Mariota has to either have receivers schemed open or have visibly open receivers who stop , turn around and make a catch.. which means imo a lot of receivers to distribute the ball to .. btw this is what Air MacNair did, except he played hurt

Cosell has made a living on reviewing tape despite no evidence of football acumen. Before the Mariota haters chime in and call me a homer, I've had this stance on Cosell forever.

The Church of Cossell has plenty of faithful converts round these parts.

I tried to explain this last fall.  I described him as a Thinker®.  Cosell detailed what I was saying.  The ball isn't coming out, no yac.  They should have just let Cosell talk.  The second question by them chopped up what he was explaining.  Then Cosell just flat out says, "I don't know if it's in his DNA" when answering whether Mariota can be a top flight QB.

"Oh Lawdy, resuscitate me.  Cosell just said Mariota doesn't have a big arm."

EYEBALL TEST.  Mariota doesn't pass it.  You can watch all the QBs and you can see after a while which are the best ones.  Now, everybody ain't Greg Cosell and explain things in football terms, but if you enjoy the sport and watch a lot of games, you can make the eyeball test.  Your description of what's wrong may not sound like Cosell's, but you are going to come to the same conclusion.

Confirmation bias, know thyself.

No need for any explanation.  If you find something untrue, itemize what you are talking about and explain why it's wrong.

Mariota processes things too slowly, has bad mechanics, throws inaccurate passes, bails from the pocket too soon or just takes the sack, doesn't pull the trigger when guys are open and doesn't throw with anticipation.

I don't need Cosell to tell me any of this. I've watched it, I've pointed it out.

His stats suck, 11 and 13 TDs last two seasons and he had 5 TDs in half of 2016 outside the 8 game streak. His career average is 215 yards passing per game.

People have made excuses from Mularkey, dropped passes to exaggerated injuries.

Can he play well at times? Sure, it's the pass happiest time in league history. He does some things well at times when everything around him is perfect.

Deny it all you want, we'll be waiting for you
