Matt LaFleur tore his Achilles

@wiscotitansfan I don't disagree and I'll be very curious to see how Smith uses RPO's in the scheme.  It goes against the mantra of protecting him.  Of course, adding weight/muscle to absorb hits is the counter argument to that and something the Titans wanted him to do for a couple of years.

I'd much rather see them use his mobility on boots or moving pockets as opposed to RPO's

Probably hung around with Mariota too much.

I don't know how I could have made it clearer that I was joking, and yet 2 different posters thought I was serious.    #oldpeopledontunderstandemoticons

I’d rather them coach him how to roll out under pressure where he is stretching the defense vertically and horizontally. The only time he needs to run is on 3rd down in big situations. The rest of the time teach him how to move, use his speed to clear the defense, and throw down field.

With that said, scrap the RPOs entirely. Move him around with rollouts and moving pockets if coaching him how to stay under control outside the pocket is to big a hill to climb this year.

Of course, you are asking to teach something that in my experience is an instinctive attribute.  To date, he really has not shown that type of ability on the NFL level.

He hasn’t. He has shown the ability to extend plays running and the ability to get to his 3rd and 4th read. He isn’t back there panicking all the time. I think it’s a teachable trait to that kind of guy with his type of speed.

I think Vrabel’s directive to Smith is not to protect Mariota.  It’s to run his offense and if Mariota can’t stay healthy then we go with Tannehill.

He actually always been sub par throwing on the run even back to his college days. Not directed at you but I laugh everytime I hear an NFL analyst say the Titans need to get Mariota on the edge by rolling him out and let him use his athleticism. It's not something he's remotely good at.

Pretty sure Wiz was let go for this reason.  Yes 4 years later but if they don’t protect the QB, Tanny won’t last long either unless he gets the ball out before the magical 2.5 seconds.
