Titans 2019 OTAs

He didn't play to expectations for the season as a whole even with much improved play in the 2nd half.

However, we have no leverage to ask him to take a pay cut as we certainly aren't going to cut him.

Hopefully, we get 2nd half Bulter in 19 and don't have to worry about this.

If he is hot/cold in 19, then paycut or release is on the table for 2020...

Some good little bits of information on the offseason program so far on today's OTP   - Amani Hooker is already taking reps with the 1st team defense and not looking out of place doing so.

This entire offseason and every thread is going to be a referendum on Mariota isn't it?

Lol.    Everyone knows if it was the opposite happening, you’d be grilling Mariota for not playing as fast.

BTW, Huston, You are honestly one of the biggest homers this board has ever seen.

If you mean seeing the big picture and understanding the nuances of the game and not seeing everything and black in white then ok.

No he didn't, it seemed like they wanted him to be a matchup shut down corner and that's just not who he is. I think they tempered down expectations and he stopped pressing trying to play up to that contract as well.

That also includes Brady, Luck twice and Watson but I'm sure you knew that already.

He was the 3rd CB against the Pats, he played 50 of the 66 snaps. On top of that Jackson was asked to single Gordon all over the field, not sure that's a game Butler should be praised.

Luck absolutely torched the secondary and Jackson was asked to cover Hilton, not Butler. Butler was the 3rd CB. In the finale Luck had a 110 passer rating.

But yea, ok

So because the other corners struggled he sucked lol. Top QBs and OC target the weakest link, you can't hide in the secondary and I dont know why you think that. The guy played damn well the second half. What about his career makes you think the first half is more of who he is as a player then the second.

Bill Belichich benched him in the SB is a bit concerning

He remained demoted until the last few games when Ryan was injured. Before the Ryan injury he was playing about 70% of the snaps while Jackson and Ryan played 100% of the snaps.

Was he the top rated CB the 2nd half of the season? That's subjective but I seriously doubt he was one of the better CBs, if he was they would have asked him to cover opposing #1 WRs, they didn't. Jackson did.

This is pretty short sighted in my opinion. They rarely ever left Jackson on a pure island like they did with Butler. Let Jackson take the number 1 with help over the top and let Butler shutdown the second WR. That honestly should have been the setup from the start.

Butler isn't a shutdown cornerback and that's how they tried to play him early on and he struggled from day one and it just snowballed from there.
