What to Watch in OTA's-6 Things

Recommended Posts

Apparently the media are allowed to cover tomorrow's OTA's, only remotely interesting stuff we are likely to find out is who is actually fit and participating at this stage of the offseason program, and who is currently working with the first team at RG and who is partnering Landry at OLB in the base defense Finch or Correa.

Yes, it's because Robinson knows that 1 of 2 things will happen----1. Mariota will continue playing at an average level and crowds will boo him to the point that he swims back to Hawaii. or 2. (Most likely) he gets a boo boo and is out for an extended period of time.

As far as Arthur Smith, fuck that guy until further notice. When your daddy can (and will try again) buy the franchise, you'll need to prove that you didn't Billy Madison your way into your important job.

Could say that, but Smith has shown steady progress with the organization.  He seems like the one guy everybody wants to keep.  There's little doubt he's done a great job with the TEs.

He’s the one guy who isn’t going to leave you for money. Opportunity? Of course.

I don't think so, last year's OTAs were when it was reported MM was awful, which was blown off or considered fake news at the time

Little did we know when he was hired in 2011 as a lowly QC coach that it was all a ploy by his daddy to allow him to rise up through the coaching ranks, surviving the death of the owner and the resignation of a controlling owner, two GMs, and three head coaches.  It was also part of the ploy that he rarely said anything to players about being part of "that" Smith family and that he has a reputation in the locker room of being very respected by the players.

I'd say if his dad is competent to orchestrate all of that, we should let him be the GM.

smith has to prove he's not being kept around because his daddy is who he is. he's been reported as having done a fantastic job everywhere.. but that would be the reports for a gazillionaires son regardless. the promotions may be a little more indicative that he's legit.

we will see.

its a bit scary but there was really no other decent options if we wanted to keep basically the same offense and verbiage.

It seems the TE have been productive.  In instances where they had to use the backups, they have been ready to step in and contribute.

Yes the TEs are the bright spot and the hope that he's actually a good coach. As I mentioned, hes been reported as doing great and been promoted, and the evidence is the TE's at the end of last year.

You still have to wonder if he rises through the ranks this fast if his last name was different.

And none of that means he will be any good as an OC. He's really the biggest question mark of the season. Bigger than QB as we hav a solid backup plan regardless there.

Just finished listening to an interview with AJ Brown from earlier today, found it somewhat surprising that he mentioned Mariota having a "live" arm in all the throwing sessions the two have participated in together since Brown arrived in Nashville.

Curious to see if the media observe any noticeable increase in velocity from Mariota in OTA's today on the back of the increased upper body strength/mass he has added this offseason.

Yesterday McGinnis said MM is throwing the ball fine and doing all the off season stuff but said he had no idea about his health

Just stop.  Smith has earned his chops and the fact he comes from a wealthy family is completely irrelevant in his career aside from him getting in the door at Washington (Smith is a part owner).

Obviously it's unproven that he is a good play caller but that was the case with LaFluer too.
