The only remaining question is whether Trump is too stupid to realize that the tariffs are paid by Americans, not the Chinese....or whether he's just lying again.

There is no way he really doesn't know, it's been explained to him and his own people have tried to talk him out of it. It's even hurts his own re-election chances

I have a pretty good idea where the idea is coming from:

“Tariffs will make our country much richer than it is today,” President Trump tweetedin August. So far, there’s not much evidence of that.

Trump’s tariff war has some clear winners, however—high among them, Russia. As shown in the left-hand graphic, Chinese imports from non-U.S. firms have continued to grow at a robust 18 percent year-over-year rate while those from U.S. firms have fallen. Among the hardest-hit U.S. sectors have been soybeans, autos, and oil. Whereas China had accounted for about 22 percent of U.S. oil exports in the two years to July 2018, it fell to zero thereafter. This has proven a boon to alternative suppliers like Russia, as shown in the right-hand figure. And so, in the ultimate irony, Americans are paying tariffs that boost the profits of Russian firms subject to U.S. sanctions.

If this is winning, Mr. President, it’s hard to imagine what losing looks like.

Goldman Sachs: Trump’s tariffs will benefit Russia and China

Trade between Moscow and Beijing has grown each month in 2018. The trend has continued amid growing trade tensions between China and the United States.

Through July, Russia and China traded goods worth $58.35 billion, which is more than a 25-percent increase in annual terms, according to Chinese customs data. The volume of exports from China to Russia for this period increased by 16.6 percent to $26.9 billion. China bought $31.45 billion worth of Russian goods, representing growth of 34.9 percent.

Really moron? So Russia with an economy smaller than that of France or the UK will replace the USA as a customer?

What took them so long they only share a border that is 2600 miles long.

What an idiot.

Here is a little homework for the libtard idiots on this board. Go look up Russia statistically compared to other countries. They are not a world power! There are several European countries that have a bigger economy and Saudi Arabia out spends them on military. Look at the numbers Oilerman uses in his 2 moronic posts. Chump fucking change.

I know you are all impressed with Putin's cock and want to push this narrative that Russia is going to dominate us but that is not true. Know what in the fuck you are talking about.

China will eventually turn into a net consumer and its people standard of living will rise as a result - i.e. they will consume more.  Something such as this will get China there faster than later as China has plans to bring out to do just that.

The Republican Party is in favor of higher taxes.

The Republican Party has always been in favor of higher taxes.

And we have always been at war with Eurasia.

A consumer China is in our best interest.  That's what these idiots don't understand.  As the incomes around the world rise and we become more interdependent, everyone's wealth will eventually rise and the need for wars and tariffs become trivial.  Instead, we negotiate over how to best use abundant resources so everyone can profit.

That post might have had relevance in 1996. He's just talking out his ass.

If yall research NLMK of Farell, PA, they get a lot of their metal from Russia.

You know, the country all the liberals hate right now....

Anyway, the tariffs have forced NLMK to have to go elsewhere for it. They can still get it, it's not hard. Less convenient sure.

Tell me why liberals are so bent out of shape over it? Figured they'd be happy to see us not giving money to a country they hate.

Its not a big deal but of course, anything the liberals can try and turn into this gigantic problem that Trump is somehow killing us with the trade wars, they will surely pounce on.

Rogue

I can't help but to remember a post by TRac months, maybe even a year ago about Trump supporters.  Something to the effect that the GOP base never had any particular principles that lined up to the GOP platform.  The tariff issue is just another instance in which proved him right.

It's kind of fascinating how many times I am reminded of that post.

They have no problem with wealth redistribution as long as it's their guy doing it.  Just another instance of TRac's post of the times.
