This is the end - Tariffs raised

Recommended Posts

I am assuming odds are decent trump and co are going to to try to use the shipping delay (tariffs dont really hit until.items leaving Chinese ports tomorrow arrive in US) to aet a new urgent deadline.  With odds decent that some kind of.deal will be struck in the meantime, and whatever the nature of.that deal it will be called a HUGE win for the US.

In the interim though the markets are going g to be ugly.

If China really wanted to end this they would just say that they are blocking the sale of all goods to and from the US. People would freak out and Trump would be forced to cave within about a week.

Two big factors China has over us.  Control, like control over their population,  media, government. financials. And patience. As they tend to work off of a much much longer timeline than we do.

It's not that they want this.  It's that  they can handle it and wait it out better.

There are a ton of valid reasons to want to negotiate a trade deal, to be pissed in general.at how.they do things. Trump and co are not all that wrong on that aspect.

But we're just in a fundamentally different place than them and despite our economic strength our socio-political makeup is not well suited to this kind of.thing.

Nines needs some psychological help.

What if these tariffs ultimately convince the fed to lower rates?

The issue for me is that we have too many Chinese products being sold in our stores. You go to a shoe store and 80%  of the product is made in China. What is special about China? 2/3 of the world can produce adequate quality products at the same prices or even cheaper than China. India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand. They can produce the same products just as cheap.

We are not obligated to buy $600B of shit every year from China. Maybe Trump needs to start working some regional trade deals that exclude China.

... and they simply do not care if a couple hundred million of their own die or starve. they've done it before.

Why do libtards assume that we have to buy Chinese products? We buy over $600B of their products and they buy $120B of ours. Who needs who the most?

Let's say that due to the higher prices of Chinese goods from these tariffs and due to some changes in consumer buying habits Chinese imports decline by $50B?

I do disagree with Trump's handling of India a country that only sells $85B of goods to us each year. Seems like this is a golden opportunity for better US-India trade relations.

US imports from other Asian countries with cheap labor..

India-$85B

Indonesia-$20B

Philippines-$12B

Bangladesh-$6B

Malaysia-$9B

Vietnam-$49B

Combined these counties sell less than 1/3 the amount we buy from China.

I'm still trying to figure out what the real end goal is here.  China isn't going to play fair on the international market no matter how much you damage their economy (and yours in the process) because it is still going to be more profitable for them to play on uneven ground even in the face of tariffs.

It's always been an incredibly stupid plan.  It's anti-free trade, anti-capitalism, anti-freedom so of course, all of the "republicans" here are supporting it on their principles and not because the orange idol told them to.

2 things that I heartily disagree with that have been said on this board.

1. We need $600B in Chinese imports and have to buy them. That's bullshit. the EU is over 500 million people and they buy $200B less from China and sell more. Nobody has a trade imbalance with China like we have. Japan's trade imbalance with China is only about $50B. There is nothing special about Chinese goods they are not cheaper or better in quality then the same goods produced by other countries.

2. The Titanruss comment that they could care less of their economy goes to shit and people starve. Also bullshit! China has become a powerful and influential country because of their economy. How do you think they pay for their military? The west is not obligated to keep financing them as they become more powerful. Of course there are political and business influences in China that do not want the gravy train to stop and the tax base to shrink.

"Tariffs will bring in FAR MORE wealth to our country than even a phenomenal deal of the traditional kind," Trump tweeted.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/10/politics/donald-trump-china-north-korea-venezuela-iran/index.html

The only remaining question is whether Trump is too stupid to realize that the tariffs are paid by Americans, not the Chinese....or whether he's just lying again.

Don't buy those products and they will not cost you anything.

Tariffs costs are absorbed on both ends.

The end goal is the same as it has always been.  Tariffs aren't good for anyone but they hurt the Chinese more than us.  It is leverage to get them to cut a fair trade deal.  Libtards are clueless to the fact we have been ass screwed for decades and now is the time (great economy on our end, horrible for the Chinese) to make a deal.  As for how it hurts us..... in some cases we have other options since other countries would like to sell to us.  In other cases it can boost manufacturing of some good here.

Empty headed retards like to point to free trade and anti-freedom but the Chinese are anything but on their end.  I realize this is a genetic issue for you so you can't understand.  That is OK.  The same genetic defect you have is not that peculiar.  There are a bunch like you on this board.

Nothing funnier than watching Trumpers try and defend Trump's stupid tariffs.

They're so profitable the Trump admin is actually giving farmers welfare supplements to try and hang on to their vote because they are losing so much money.
