Maybe, maybe not. If they decided that emoluments only matter to a sitting president and he can’t be charged with anything after leaving office then it would have no impact on other more well defined crimes.

What it does is basically create free reign for the president to raise money however they want while in office and just delay court cases until they are out. They profit and nothing will happen to them,

Without taking back the cash, it becomes a perk of the job rather than crimes against the country.

The real problem is that they just kicked the can down the road and made sure that there would never be a hearing while Trump was in office.

Because making money isn’t inherently a crime, he isn’t going to be charged with anything (unless they find blatant corruption). And House Dems refused to charge Trump with violating the emoluments clause as they should have (though there would have been no conviction or even a trial) so that was the only real opportunity.

This seems like a very dangerous precedent to set:   they're essentially allowing future presidents free reign to engage in emoluments and profiteering, since any pending lawsuits will be thrown out once they leave office.

But regardless of outcome:   Trump's conduct on Jan 6th sparked legitimate debate about invoking the 25th Amendment for the first time in US history.   A week later,  he became the first President to ever be impeached twice.    Now Congress and Supreme Court find themselves in a position to set precedent for post-presidency impeachment and lawsuits.

Even if he's never convicted or found guilty in a court of law...the mere fact that these subjects became legitimate topics of conversation speaks volumes nature of Trump's presidency.
