Cyprien as a backup S would not be bad, better than Kedrick Lewis anyway.

Way better, Jrob has plenty of money left and I bet we sign more then just Urban before the season.

Contingency plan,  as JRob said,  they had a hand full of players graded for that pick,  I think they were targeting the interior Dlinemen.

The others were taken,  Simmons  was the Last finger,  which meant signing someone  all ready picked out,  to address  the need.

Not sure Cruikshank will ever be "ready." I think he's more of a Brynden Trawick replacement. ST player with some versatility as a DB to step in for emergencies on game day.

They play different positions

And I’d be fine if Cyprien is the backup SS. Better that than starter...

He would be awesome in the box, and he isn’t just terrible in coverage.

They actually play the same position. Cruikshank is a strong safety and nickel type player. He doesn't have the range to play free.

He started out a corner and nickel. He is way more suited to play FS than SS.

Wrong.

Him playing corner doesn't automatically suit him to play FS. He played mostly nickel and dime corner on the inside and plays like a SS, albeit obviously undersized.

I listened to Chuck Cecil (his college coach) talking about him for 20 minutes after we drafted him. I really had hoped he'd be able to be a free safety so researched and researched and nothing I've read about him leads me to believe he can play free safety.

He is simply not a player like Griffin or like Woodson or Jason McCourty even, that could play free safety. He's an inside type player that plays man coverage on the inside ok but has no range and has never played free safety at all or played deep zone coverages.

Casting him as a free safety is just a total and absolute projection based just on the fact that he played corner.

AJ might not make the final 53...

He will just because he's versatile and a good run down player. But that's all he is and is more of a rotational guy imo. Great depth player though, can be the backup nose and 5 tech while Simmons is on PUP.
