I think he's more of a Brynden Trawick replacement. Better that than starter... They actually play the same position. Cruikshank is a strong safety and nickel type player. He doesn't have the range to play free. Him playing corner doesn't automatically suit him to play FS. He played mostly nickel and dime corner on the inside and plays like a SS, albeit obviously undersized. I listened to Chuck Cecil (his college coach) talking about him for 20 minutes after we drafted him. I really had hoped he'd be able to be a free safety so researched and researched and nothing I've read about him leads me to believe he can play free safety. He is simply not a player like Griffin or like Woodson or Jason McCourty even, that could play free safety. He's an inside type player that plays man coverage on the inside ok but has no range and has never played free safety at all or played deep zone coverages. Casting him as a free safety is just a total and absolute projection based just on the fact that he played corner. But that's all he is and is more of a rotational guy imo. Great depth player though, can be the backup nose and 5 tech while Simmons is on PUP.
