He apparently had a broken rib, tore his foot, and cracked a vertebrae by the end of the season to go along with the elbow and shoulder nerve injuries. The team said nothing about it even after the season and still had him practicing going into the last week. From the reports he brought in an outside specialist, and it sounded like he and his doctor came to the decision along with the team instead of the team making the decision unilaterally. It would have been really nice if the guy could have stayed healthy and developed, because as of right now I’ve seen him flash every year and regardless of narrative the injuries and constant changing of scheme has take its toll. I guess that’s still a gray area because it was never confirmed. The narrative I remember after the game seemed to be that Marcus had a big hand in bringing in the specialist. All around a weird situation. You forgot the strained oblique and sprained AC Joint. The plantar fasciitis is really painful from what I've been told and he had a complete tear. It's actually impressive that he played as much as he did with all that going on. No one should ever question Marcus's toughness or love for this team. Reports I've read is that the Team doctors didn't feel confident after the second stinger and so sent him back to the specialist who told Marcus that there was potential permanent damage if he continued to push it. Originally, it sounded a lot like Marcus told the team that he wasn't going to play at the recommendation of an outside specialist but after Kahursky's reporting last month, it became pretty clear that the team was pretty involved in the decision and supported the specialist's conclusions. They just didn't get the final diagnoses until late Friday night and up until that point, though he was going to play even though he wasn't 100% but didn't have the diagnoses of potential long term damage until everyone was already under the impression that Marcus was going to play. That really goes against the norm. and if I'm the team I damn sure want to know if there is any risk of permanent injury to a guy I'm on the hook for to the tune of $20+ mill. Leave doubt in the minds of the Colts. You’ve been following pro football long enough to know this. Im sure Mariota wanted to play in the biggest game. They let him try and throw but they knew from the doctor that they needed to sit him.
