some wont even acknowledge that he has the talent even if it is inconsistent.

Pretty much everyone says this exactly

Of course all QBs have talent and the bad ones are inconsistent, Blake Bortles has had good stretches and even won two playoff games.

His most impressive game last year was Dallas, followed by the Eagles and Patriots. He played really well in all 3, but the Dallas game shows his ability. We were in 3rd and long all night with no running game to speak of and his guards in his lap the whole night. He just kept dicing them up. The talent isn’t, and really hasn’t ever been, the question. It’s the consistency, which goes not only from game to game but quarter to quarter. He gets one last shot to put it all together.

I thought Philadelphia was his best game by far, minus the INT.  I thought that we were seeing him breaking out.  Though they were letting Davis run free and terrorize them.  He had a few very nice touch throws against NE.  Cowboys game was mainly his supporting cast minus the deep shot, IMO

Is Blake Bortles bad? He's had great games and very good stretches, he won two playoff games

On Path To The Draft today, the Titans were featured.  Joel Klatt stated that Mariota was a generational talent when he came out of Oregon.  He blames his lack of support from the organization including the 5 different OC's.  He states we should take the best WR in the draft who he feels is Hollywood Brown, to give him what he has not yet had, a good supporting cast.  I am aware that the anti-8 faction here will strongly disagree.

Klatt Played Qb at CU and was on the radio here in Denver before he got his first TV and play by play college gig. The guy knows Qb play and isn't  afraid to state his opinion even if it isn't popular.

No he lost his job in year 5, his good games and good stretches and playoff wins were not enough to overcome his inconsistent play

So your saying he was a good qb but was inconsistent so he is a backup now. Marcus's inconsistencies where mostly due to injury and coaching changes how is that similar to Bortles.

That's ridiculous.  For one, he's had one of the best TEs in the league  .  And no sorry coaches or supporting staff are going to make a generational talent throw 24 TDs to 23 INTs or 3,000 yards per year.  If he were that special, we would have seen it by now.  Basically every scout was saying that they had no idea how to evaluate him because nothing in his Oregon offense translated to the NFL.  So he was in a pretty significant minority

Perhaps his definition of a generational talent is different.  To me, that's reserved for guys like Elway, Manning, and Luck, all of whom were the unquestioned #1 pick and day one franchise QB.  Go back and look at the scouting reports on Mariota in 2015.  Most thought he had the potential to be a very good QB but it would take some time.  His comps were guys like Kaepernick and Tannehill.

As for the team support, I call BS.  They did tons of things to support Mariota in personnel and some of the coaching changes were done specifically to help him.  I do think some of this different OC stuff is exaggerated.  They didn't change the playbook in 2015 when Michaels took over from Whisenhunt as the OC.  The Mularkey playbook is different than Whiz but the terminology - i.e. language - is the same and he was in that for two years.  LaFleur came in with a totally different scheme/terminology.  Smith apparently is keeping that intact.

Regarding Bortles, he went through 3 OC's in his first 3 seasons.  He's not a great QB by any means but he's accomplished as much as Mariota has with similar and perhaps less offensive talent around him.

What were the ton of things they did again lol, that's a fucking joke. The coaching changes to actually help him were only done a year ago and is changing again. I dont have problem admitting the guy has is own personal work to do to get better but at least be honest about his situation.

The article specifies “obvious passing situations”.   The fact is, Marcus put up pretty spectacular numbers in these situations for 2018:

3rd & 7+:   126.7 passer rating

3rd & 10+:  :  113.1 passer rating

4th & 10+ :   118.8 passer rating

I’ve checked the numbers for several other QBs as well...Brady, Brees, Mahomes, Wilson, Rivers,  Ryan, Luck, Roethlisberger, Watson, and others.   I have yet to find one who rated as highly as Marcus in similar situations;   most of them aren’t even close.

Here’s what’s crazy:  as efficient as Marcus was in bad situations...in more favorable  down/distance situations, he was absolutely terrible.

1st & <10:  56.3 rating

2nd & 4-6:   62.2 rating

3rd & 4-6:  62.5 rating

Let's see:

They first signed Matthews and Douglas, drafted Sharpe in round 4, and then drafted Davis # 5 overall and Taylor day 2.

They added Murray, Henry, and then Lewis at RB whereas they previously had Sankey and McCluster.

They signed Jones at Center and drafted Conklin

They drafted Smith and added Stocker at TE to go with Walker.  Later Firkster was signed and did well last year.

As for coaching, they fired Whiz so he wouldn't get killed in the pocket.  Mularkey DID help him as he had his best stretch of football ever production wise with him in that 8 game stretch.  They change last year to bring LaFluer in again was done to help Mariota.

His situation is that he needs a lot of help around him or from the coaching to be productive. He's not a franchise saving QB, a la a generational talent
