Justafan
It's not even about the double standard. Trump supporters have ZERO credibility to criticize any candidate for unethical behavior, exaggerating their exploits, making insensitive remarks, lying, downplaying, or whataboutism. rns90

This very scandal about Hunter Biden...... Ivanka and Jerod are literally getting money from Trump's office. Jerod got his NY building paid off by Qatar after threatening them. There is no scandal about Biden either. It's a complete non story inflated to draw attention away from what is actually happening. rns90, OILERMAN, and tgo

Starkiller
https://www.vox.com/2019/10/2/20893854/elizabeth-warrens-anti-corruption-lobbying-tax Elizabeth Warren wants to tax the corporate lobbying she says is breaking the American political system. Warren, whose presidential campaign has been incrementally releasing a package of anti-corruption proposals, has unveiled a plan to tax corporations and trade organizations that spend a lot of money lobbying Congress and federal agencies. The proposal would tax groups and companies that spend between $500,000 and $1 million per year on lobbying at a 35 percent rate, increasing the rate for bigger lobbying budgets. Corporations and trade groups that spend more than $1 million per year on lobbying would get hit with a 60 percent tax rate, and those spending more than $5 million would see a 75 percent tax rate. These brackets would hit the pocketbooks of big pharmaceutical and health insurance companies, the real estate industry, fossil fuel companies, Wall Street firms, and electric utilities the hardest. They do not apply to charitable or social welfare organizations that also lobby the government, such as 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 nonprofit groups, but do apply to trade and professional associations, 501(c)6 groups. pamo9

She's right (correct) on a lot of issues. She just needs to show that she isn't a complete ideologue.

It's a start, but I'm assuming the corporations would respond by accelerating the trend of astroturfing to get their agendas implemented. We'd become even more reliant on good investigative journalism to help us with transparency.

This is a terrible idea. The better idea is to do your best to force congress to deal with Citizens United in a meaningful way.

That would be great, but if the conservative Supreme Court would continue to protect the whole money = free speech idea then Citizens United And the like aren’t going away anytime soon. Gotta attack the problem any way they can. Also, Citizens United doesn't cover lobbying. Edited October 3, 2019 by Starkiller pamo9
