The NFL announced its list of performance-based compensation for players whose playing time exceeded their salaries as compared to the rest of the team.    These payouts are designed to compensate players who play a ton of reps despite receiving a relatively low salary.

Jayon Brown played 851 snaps, which was the team's 4th highest total on defense....yet his $555K salary ranked #36 on the roster.   The league awarded Brown a performance-based bonus of $489,664....the league's fifth-highest performance-based payout for the 2018 season.

Kevin Byard led the defense with 1043 defensive snaps...but his $784K salary ranked #29 on the team.    Byard received a performance-based bonus of $117,580.

Interesting. I had never heard of it before today

I even think it goes back as far as McCourty and Finnegan but can't recall how far. I remember late round picks pretty far back getting money for performance
