OFFICIAL Biden thread, since it looks like he's getting in

I've not sure why there are any complaints about Biden NOW, given the shit show we are currently seeing now.

wrong again.  that narrative failed mightily in Nevada or at least it wasn't compelling enough.  2020 will play out only because the other moderates dropped out and overwhelmingly endorsed Biden -- partying on the stage. EVERY pundit said they had never seen such swing.  now you are projecting -- Biden had it all the time!  Bullshit.  If you need a proof point go back and look at your posts at the time, including conceding that Biden was coming up short.  But now it's Bidenz da MANZ.  Go sell that revisionist history somewhere else.

Nevada? Who gives two shits about Nevada? Nevada has proven to be totally meaningless both this cycle and in 2016. Biden finished second in Nevada behind Bernie anyway, and then won South Carolina, which is why the other candidates had to drop out - BECAUSE THEY HAD NO PATH TO VICTORY BECAUSE BIDEN DEFEATED THEM.

I never said "Biden had it all the time" and am not insinuating it now, but I did say repeatedly that if Biden finished second in Nevada and won South Carolina then he would likely win, I said this repeatedly to my friends as well. That's just political reality. Biden was favored in South Carolina since last April when he announced.

Anyway, I'm not going to continue this pointless back and forth with you since you clearly have demonstrated your lack of political understanding repeatedly throughout this process.

Nevada is a caucus state. Find another example as caucuses favors extremists like most of the bernie bros.

So he's a bridge to AOC and Tlaib? Wow. Ppl must feel much more comfortable knowing that.....

No - he's a bridge to Buttigieg, Harris, Whitmer, Abrams, etc.

Tlaib is probably (hopefully) going to get defeated this year anyway.

"thanks Clyburn, but I got this!"

"thanks candidates for dropping out and joining me on stage to rally against Bernie!"

*Things Biden would never say, but now his supporters can now safely project, after sweating through 'awesome' Biden performances*

pushups!!

Heh. Interesting anecdote that Clyburn told over the weekend - after the endorsement event, Clyburn was rushing to his SUV to get to the airport to get back to DC and Biden was running after him trying to get his attention, with tears running down his cheeks to thank him. (because he knew that Clyburn's endorsement would effectively deliver him the nomination because the sheer margin of victory would be a death knell to the other candidates that they couldn't recover from)

Clyburn's endorsement was heartfelt and powerful too, showing some tears of his own due to his late wife's admiration for Biden and Clyburn's longstanding deep friendship with Biden.

Anyway, like I said, luckily for Biden he had built a strong relationship with Clyburn over the past few decades and had Clyburn's daughter working for him after knowing the family so well. This is how politics works when you're doing it right.

its time to say it again.

Don't let perfect by the enemy of good

Biden is not a great candidate but he's exactly what the country needs to fight Trump. He speaks directly to those who flipped the 2016 election for Trump in MI, WI, and PA. Who gives a fuck if he's not a generational talent? Getting Trump out is the most important issue this country has faced in decades and maybe dating back to WW2.

Agreed on Biden leveraging his real work connection with SC.  But also recall that Clyburn also said at the time that he was afraid where he saw our politics going -- for the first time he was afraid of another 4 years of Trump.  He endorsed Biden primarily due to that fear of risking Bernie v Trump in the general.

I thought Clyburn's family was with Mayor Pete's campaign, yes?

My summary is still the same -- Biden's boomerang trajectory was unprecedented.  it only came about by the other Dem candidates ensuring they did not let happen to them what happened to the repubs with Trump.  If Pete and Amy stay in 2 more weeks, Bernie is the guy no question, and all this "the people have spoken" would have been -- dammit the idiot voters screwed this up!! This is what happened; not Biden was so awesome.

@begooode It's Clyburn's grandson that was with Pete, yeah. His daughter has a doctorate and was/is a Biden advisor though.

And it would have prolonged the process for sure and given Bernie way more of a chance, but I don't buy that Bernie would've been the nominee. Eventually Pete and Amy would've had to drop out, and Biden would've still won all the Southern states handily.

But part of what makes Biden "so awesome" as a politician is that his connections to people like Amy and Pete allowed them to easily drop out and endorse him. Like I mentioned before, Biden was the first person to call Amy after her "snowstorm" announcement of her campaign to congratulate her and tell her how great her speech was. Amy also told a story about how she told Biden about a close friend who had lost a spouse, and instead of just writing a note he called the friend and gave them his personal number to call whenever they needed someone to talk to, and how that really made Klobuchar have a new level of respect for Biden.

Kerry was thinking about running for president early last year, but out of respect and deference to Biden, Kerry decided not to run and instead has been campaigning for Biden for months on end.

Point being - power comes with the kind of connections and loyalty Biden commands through back channels and through friendship, not through fear like Trump, but rather through personal connections and goodness.

There's something to be said for this kind of political power - everything is not rousing speeches in front of roaring crowds that excite the masses. In fact - that's not what was needed at all to win this primary, but rather exactly what Biden offers as a candidate despite his deficiencies.

Anyway, I digress - the proof is in the pudding.

"Look, I view myself as a bridge, not as anything else," Biden said. "There's an entire generation of leaders you saw stand behind me. They are the future of this country."

I meant citation that Biden is exciting progressives. I doubt that.

Oh - I'm just talking anecdotally from things I've read from Harris and Buttigieg and Beto supporters online and in my personal circles, that line of progressives.

I'm not really talking about far left extremist socialists like Bernie supporters, they're not going to be excited by Biden - a great many of them will have to hold their nose to vote for Biden. And some of course just won't vote. Luckily, it's a small enough number of voters that the deficiency can be overcome by increased turnout from minorities, suburban women, and Never Trump Republicans/independents.

It makes sense though - that core base are the "counter culture" anti-capitalist types of our age, there will always be outlier counter culture forces in society like this in any given time. Although plenty of Bernie supporters are normal blue collar people or educated progressives that see Bernie as a genuine change agent as well, but I wouldn't say those people are his true "core."
