Does anyone realize with Tannehill they could draft a QB, if the right ones drops to them, and dump Mariota and his salary?  We lose virtually nothing as the starter while we groom the new QB for a year.

Interesting idea but it feels like a reach.

If there is an emphasis on the run game, I wonder if Henry comes close to 1,500 yards?

He may but I hope not. If Henry has that much production it likely means we sucked through air.

He could get 1500 yards and only average 20 carries a game, that would only help the passing game.

IDK if this was posted, Saffold was on The Ringers list of top ten offensive FA's this year. Our deal (four-year, $44 million deal with $22.5 million guaranteed) was a little off what they listed.

At this point it's not really new info but it's a good summary.

Quote

Rodger Saffold, G

Why He’s a Free Agent: The megadeals for Aaron Donald and Todd Gurley have kicked in for the Rams. With less than $30 million in cap space and several holes that need to be addressed, GM Les Snead may think it’s unwise to spend upward of $10 million per year on a soon-to-be 31-year-old guard. But Saffold’s age and the Rams’ significant financial investments elsewhere are the only two reasons they’d let him walk. He’s been excellent in Sean McVay’s offense over the past two seasons, and he’ll provide any team that lands him with a standout up front.

His Potential Market Value: Three years, $33 million ($20 million guaranteed)

At his age, Saffold probably won’t command a deal with much guaranteed money after Year 2. Yet the going price for top guards in free agency is trending north of $11 million per season. His production fits that bill.

Potential Landing Spots: Giants, Jets, Texans, Broncos, Bills, Vikings

Several of the teams looking for tackle help could also use a boost at guard. Houston is better off at its interior line spots than it is at tackle, but Saffold would represent a significant upgrade. Another team that could give him a long look is the Vikings, who struggled inside last season. Minnesota has a limited amount of cap space, but teams have done more with less in the past. Trading cornerback Trae Waynes would free up more than $9 million and provide Minnesota with some wiggle room to make a move.

Eh, not necessarily. Are you one who prefers a 350+ yard/1 or 2 td kinda guy or a 200-250 yard/3-4 td kinda guy?

Obviously the latter but over the last few seasons in TEN a RB getting enough touches to put up big numbers has led to too few passing attempts and production. If Henry can be as efficient as @Huston proposes and put up 1500 while averaging 20 attempts per game then sign me up.  As always Mariota is the key here.

I think this is the biggest upgrade so far into the season. We need another guard but we can turn this weakness into a strength shortly.

That's the quickest way for any team to improve....turn a true weakness into a strength, regardless of position.  The marginal improvement is greater than trying to turn a strength into something stronger.

One of the reasons that I think JRob goes IOL in the 1st.  RG is currently the biggest weakness on the team.  That was evident by JRob cutting a guy who had part of his base salary guaranteed.  Now they have no one of consequence.

If that’s the case and it’s so obvious to you that he sucks... then why keep him and pay him?

Your logic makes no sense.

Au Contraire, logic always makes sense.

The fact that it's nonsensical is prima facie evidence that it's far from logical.

He probably meant we won't see a huge difference overall and he might be right.  Saffold is a better run blocker.  They are closer to the same as pass protectors (Spain actually graded out better).  The best thing is Saffold will probably not make as many mistakes.

We’ll see a big difference for sure.

They didn’t sign him to to an 11M APY contract to not see a huge difference.

Unless of course you just think Robinson is patently stupid.
