Titans Sign Humphries

Who cares that it happened to be the Patriots in the bidding?  You guys were the ones that brought it up, first whining about NE playing dirty and then actually celebrating this and the regular season win as some sort of twisted payback for a 59-0 loss back in 2009?  That's pathetically sad.

Humphries went to the Titans because he and his agent agreed to terms before NE upped their offer.  I'm glad he's a Titan but IMO it had more to do with giving your word than Titans over Patriots.  Do you honestly believe he would be a Titan if he had not verbally agreed to terms before NE upped their offer?  Do you honestly believe that he would rather play with Marcus Mariota than Tom Brady?

He's not the first player nor the last that Robinson will outbid the Patriots for - hell he's always dishing out big contracts to guys that the good teams let walk - Ryan, Butler, Lewis.  Add the Rams to that list since they are paying Safford double what the Rams were.

Maybe someday Robinson will draft well enough so other teams are overpaying our free agents while we just replenish talent like clock work.

That's presumptuous. Who knows why players do anything.

Not everyone waits by the phone for the Patriots to call. Some aren't sure they want to live in New England ... maybe that's why?

Or maybe he loves Robinson and knew exactly where he was going. Adams is making a ton of presumptions. The guy openly said Robinson went to bat for him in Tampa, essentially alluding to the fact he feels he somewhat owes the guy his career.

Humphries emphasized in his press conference about how his word was a huge factor in his decision.  I believe that.  It’s therefore safe to assume that if NE had initially offered more than the Titans (which they didn’t), he likely would be in NE.  If he was he’ll bent on playing here no matter what then Robinson should have been able to get him for less than what he paid.

saying all of this, the bigger problem is that slot guys can be found on day 2 or 3.  Why not draft Hunter Renfrew on day 2 or 3 at a fraction of the cost or find another Humphries or Doug Baldwin in UDFA.

I guess the terms "veteran presence," "experienced" and "mentor" are lost on some people.

It isn't about physical skill(s).  JRob's priority was a vet, not another rookie.

I'm certain he went after Wake for the same reasons.

This idea that 4 year vet Adam Humphries is going to mentor Davis and Taylor as they enter year 3 is so over the top.  Humphries fills a big need but it’s one that other teams fill for a lot less than 9 m per year when they draft those guys.

Agreed.

Only teams that fill it for less are teams with good QBs.

Then maybe the GM should focus on getting one.  Do folks realize that he’s passed up the following QBs in his tenure:  Wentz, Goff, Mahomes, Watson.  All are unquestionably better than Mariota.

That  doesn’t even address how he’s handled the backup slot given Mariota’s availability issues.

Do you need a crying towel?

Hunter Renfro hasn't proven he can play in the NFL.  Thus he is far cheaper.
